AvA icon settings
« on: June 25, 2014, 05:19:41 AM »
Yesterday I had quite cool fights at AvA but...

I think the no-enemy icons at all is too harsh. Even short icons are very problematic.

Of course the basic reason is the screen resolution is nowhere near the human eye resolution (you need a screen of about 16,000x16,000 pixels). Also I could follow the planes on the sky and even detect a type once in a while from ~500 yards, the plane totally disappears over the ground clutter. i.e. I could loose a sight of a plane 300-400 yards in front of me if it flew below the horizon.

I remember in one of previous setups dragging cons to the see to have at least "look-down shoot-down" ability.

I know there is a long debate what is good/cool but I feel that allowing icons - at least short ones would help both bring more guys (like in old CT days) and actually wouldn't be as unrealistic as flying virtually blind. Actually having visual acuity of the screen in the real world is like having 1/6 vision - which is legally considered blind.

Recently a similar discussion was held about the SEC that had than 1K/3K icons and it was decided to go back to 3K/3K (something that CT had in AH1 days): http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,362525.0.html

So can you please consider enabling icons at least 1K icons for enemy (3/3 would be ideal IMHO)?

while we appreciate your suggestion, we've had this debate so many times its not even funny. 2 years ago, we took a poll of 50 players that played in the AVA, and the majority wanted/liked 3k friendly and no enemy icons so we stuck with it.

I even had a guy come in last night that I've never seen before and comment on how much he liked the no enemy icons, because it was more immersive and more realistic.

if we even thought for a minute, that going to 1k would bring in more players, we'd do it. we've been there and done that. we had 3k/3k and the numbers didn't change.
we done 6k/6k(MA standard) and the numbers didn't change. So we've left it at 3k/0k to be a little unique. yes its harder, yes its tougher, but when you're in the AVA
playing and wishing the icons were on, think about the poor pilots in WWII that had no icons glaring at them, that had to find the bad guys and shoot them down or the
guys that got snuck up on, because their SA wasn't good enough. we reproduce that to a degree.... its not perfect, and its not permanent. if a group came in and ask to change
the settings we'd do it or consider it. for now since the numbers have not changed, we're going to leave it as it is. again we appreciate your suggestions and comments, and given
a sudden influx of players that wanted the settings changed, we would reconsider the settings.

Ok, I understand that this was over-discussed but last time at AvA it was 0k/1K not 0k/3K...

In any case thanks for the answer.

last night i got in there and the settings were 1k friendly and 0k enemy, that's been corrected to 3k friendly and 0k enemy. anytime you see that, you should give us a holler on here, so we can fix it.

our AVA standard is 3k friendly/0k enemy.... for now.

Know that we are willing to customize settings for large groups whenever asked. We appreciate your concern.
