SAR-Please implement this feature with existing object
« on: January 31, 2001, 09:09:00 AM »
I know this has been brought up before, maybe not in this exact context..but:

Why not have the ability to pick up a downed pilot with a PT boat and have him joined as a gunner?  Can the code do that?

Say, something like, once PT boat is within a certain range, a panel pops up saying "Would you like to pick this poor sap up and use him as a gunner?" YES or NO?"

Then, the downed pilot now becomes part of the crew (Gunner) and avoids him being 'captured' status. (However, he may end up dying now that he's joined a very vulnerable Teak wood platform...

And Hey!  How about that seaplane tender and some serious SAR A/C for perk points?  Folks would fly them if you rewarded such feats of heroism with, say, 10 points a pilot!

My squad and I would LOVE this, and use it often!

Sounds good Rip, but how long would this take with a PT boat?  Doesn't seem very practical.

Not sure about your question, Deja..last night 2 pilots hit the silk near our CV-less fleet, and my son and I were in PT boats nearby...Geeman asked if we could pick up the para's..I said "no'..he said "Why not?"...I said "Good question.."

We could have picked them up, returned to the general vicinity of the remain TG, and exited, thus giving us points for picking up a pilot, giving the pilot a 'landed successfully'...if this feature were implemented.

Ah.. in this situation I like it even less Rip.  You are introducing a way to really push the perk system to the limit.

Plus, you are not really saving the pilot.  He got a "bail" anyway, and if he was that close to a CV, there was no capture.  The only time it would be relevant is if you are saving the pilot from being captured.  At that point, you are talking a half an hour to get to the pilot, then another 45 mins to an hour to get back to your CV, assuming someone doesn't wait over the pilot and straff him just prior to you showing up.

Hmmm how about this..

If you save a pilot (he gets a choice to.) you get 1/3 of the perk points he would have recieved for landing his plane with whatever kills he had at that time plus a small 2 or 3 perk point bonus. Only if you get him back to base though. He also gets 1/3 of the perk points he would hae recieved plus saving his streak.

A question for you Rip:

Do you think that if rescues were made that gave the rescuer perk points and the bailer a "landed successfully" there would be more or less chute killing?

Yes we need the ability to save players from capture.  Perk points would be motivational.

Well said Yeager.
I think any plane that have a open position should can land and rescue.
Perk points is motivacional, YES.
And if u kill a chute u lose perk points.
I think will incentivate ppl to be more human
Dunno how much points u should lose, but i think it works well.

Your choice, kill (and lose points) or let it go...

Great idea!

I think the option should be implemented if possible and be extended to include transport and future rescue oriented aircraft for use in scenarios and however it is featured in the main with its new and disgusting POINTS mentality is of no concern to me.

Do it please.

They should only do it if they model SHARKS.

I'd take a PT boat out just to watch em chewing on Rips bellybutton
