Saitek Issues
« on: July 08, 2014, 06:34:51 PM »
I have a Saitek X52 stick/throttle and I have to open up[ the deadband on the Y axis(nose up,nose dn)to the extent that now control is very sluggish. But if I reduce it it wont stay on autopilot. CAn this be remedied or is it time for a new stick?

sounds like its time for a new stick. I'm one of those guys that likes to take hings apart and try to fix them. I'd pull it apart to see if there was anything I could clean or tighten up to make it work, but, thats me.

Are you sure it's the pitch axis thats causing auto pilot to "kick off"?   I would check the rudder axis on the X52 as it uses a potentionmeter and is prone to spiking.

The pitch and roll axis use halon devices and rarely mess up,there is a magnet mod that you can do that might help in this case, check X52 mods on Utube!

Also you could enable scaling and move all the sliders to the top of their range and see if that doesnt make the stick more responsive.

  Hope that helps.

Just FYI.  Disabling scaling is the same as enabling scaling and keeping the sliders all across the top.

To see which axis is spiking, simply watch the numbers in parentheses, next to the axis, in the "Map Controllers" panel.  If the numbers are changing, with no input from you, then that is your problematic axis.

What you may want to do is to add some deadband to that axis.  Select the axis, open the "Advanced" panel, then look at the input graphs.  The goal is to add enough deadband to prevent the spikes from getting through the game control (the graph on the right will show the results of adding deadband).

Hope that helps.

Go into Saitek control panel and tell me if anything is bouncing around in the axis's. Now the main culprit would be the ministick which could effect your main stick. Either increase the deadzone of that axes/stick or move it around and see if it settles down.

Also try another USB input or port "powered hopefully". You might also want to try and do a reinstall of the driver.

The mini stick is very noisy. I increased the DB on that one and reduced it on the main Y axis. The Y axis in the game is the noisy one. I didn't see increasing the DB in game have any effect on the noise level in game. Overall It seems to have improved somewhat. On youtube they talk about adding small Neodymium magnets to the existing ones in the X52. Is this worthwhile and where can I get a set?

Good to know there was some debate on this awhile back and I was never sure if they were the same or not,so simply disabling scaling has the same effect?

This will make it easier to help with JS setups,THX!
