tankodesantniki
« on: July 18, 2014, 02:08:34 PM »
I would like to see tank desant shock troops otherwise known as tankodesantniki added to the T-34/76 and T-34/85 for a third alternative to taking a base.

Just tossing my two kopecks out there.

I think it's a neat & different type of wish.  As long as the troops can be strafed off, I think it would be fair.

Ah! You're a Knight too!

And I agree about making them vulnerable to strafing and high explosive blasts when they are still riding the tank. I also agree to add them to the Sherman. I suggested the Soviet tanks because of the better speed. I think it would add a cool new dimension to base taking and you'd probably see swarms of T-34s attacking bases. (as should be the case) Oh how glorious for Comrade Stalin that would be!!

:headscratch: so you would rather shoot at shock troops instead of taking a base??

By "third alternative" I am referring to the M3 halftrack and the C-47 Gooney Bird as the other two existing troop transport methods. T-34s mounting troops, which is historically accurate, would be a viable third alternative and add another exciting dimension to the game.

And as an added challenge, if the tank carrying desent troops is hit by an AP round and destroyed, there should be a slight chance for some or all of the troops to escape and make a run for the map room.

Why?  As far as I know, the US didn't use specialized assault troops in this way by riding on tanks as part of the main assault force like the Soviets did during the Spanish Civil War and WW2.  Tankodesantnikis were specialized soldiers, trained and equipped to protect the assaulting tanks from enemy AT teams and infantry during a combined arms assault.

In the book Panzer Destroyer - Memoirs of a Red Army Tank Commander, the author Vasiliy Krysov describes in detail the use of tankodesantnikis in the assaults he took part as a SU-122 and SU-85 tank commander.
