In today's informed society, I really don't understand how anyone thinks they can get away with something like this... but then again these guys are mostly idiots. I've had a guy try to talk me out of money ("My car broke down in the parking lot here, I left my wallet at home and need a hundred bucks for a cab, can you spare anything? [insert military service story to guilt me]") while telling me his rank in the Army was Commander while I am WEARING a unit T-shirt hinting that I'm military... It's bad enough they're dumb enough to try it, but worse when they go for people who obviously know better...

Stupid people tend to assume others are equally stupid.

What leads you to assume he's mentally ill?

I think those Marines are spot-on. But then again our finest warriors are always able to spot nasty sloppy civilian impersonators.  :aok

I'm going to add that I also think he is mentally challenged (low IQ).  Just from the way he speaks, and the fact that he has so many stripes on his sleeve (years of service), and his incredible stories.

Reminds me of this guy I came across in the gym at college who was bragging to people about being a marine sniper with 13 confirmed kills and going straight to sniper school, bypassing basic training because he was "soo fit" he didn't need it. Now I've never been in the military but when the guy on treadmill next to me who is "soo fit" can't even run a mile I got a little suspicious. I had made friends with a guy who was an actual marine, met him after he intervened  to save me from a definite bellybutton whooping from a guy more than twice my size. This fight was initiated by this big lug who was calling me a popsicle for going to flight school and that flying required no intelligence as pilots all just used "auto takeoff, auto fly and auto land". Anyways I told the marine about the "sniper" who was walking around campus claiming to be a marine and maybe I should introduce them to each other since vets would likely enjoy the company of another vet. The "sniper" guy was a real bs'er unlike the guy in the video he was very quick to respond and lied firmly to people. Well the real marine shut that guy down one on every bs lie he dished out to the point he was crying. shoulda recorded that toejam

Yes, he attended special needs classes and is committing a felony.    Do you know the two Marines personally?  If not, why are you bagging on two current Marines who have actually taken the Oath?

Finally, please regale us with heroic tales of yore.

Maybe you should try thinking before you open your mouth? I have to assume from a comment like this, you are equally mentally ill, or just painfully unintelligent. And yes, I take this one personally. Who the hell are you to judge these men? How do you know they HAVEN'T fought over seas? And whether or not they have doesn't change the fact that this other idiot (A friend of yours maybe?) is committing a FEDERAL CRIME, desecrating a uniform men have died for, and defrauding the civilian populace.
