Oops! I forgot one... Honorable mention as worst pilot:

Harry Conick Jr. 's character in Independence Day.

He was also in the movie "Memphis Belle" where he lets his co-pilot shoot his machine guns for a bit.  The co-pilot manages to shoot a ME-109 down which crashes into a B-17.  On the return leg home, Harry dumps his machine guns and ammo overboard "Oh Hitler, you can have my weapons too!".

Best movie pilot without a doubt is Jimmy Stewart.  Anyone that gives up an Oscar winning movie career to go fly B-24s in combat just isn't going to not be the best movie pilot.  Throw in his actual movie pilots, whether it be "Strategic Air Command", playing Charles Lindbergh or "Flight of the Phoenix" and it's a no-brainer

From his real combat flying days.



Worst, and I know I'll get grief for it, is John Wayne.  No matter what the movie, or what fighter he's flying, the guy never ever checks his tail.  Not once does he look behind to clear his six.  He should have died a million times over

He also slept on the way to the target. In his defense, though, the co-pilot pressured him into letting him shoot and he thought he was just being nice. Also, he was ordered to dump his ammo and guns once they were far enough over friendly territory, to lighten the load, and as he was throwing them out the window he said "You can take my guns...you can take my bullets too!", which he said in a joking kind of voice.

The Best pilot had to be Gil Gerard as Buck Rodgers.

He traveled 500 years into the future and despite his girth, had Erin Gray and Pamela Hensley fighting over him.
