Host Connection Lost WWI ONLY
« on: August 06, 2014, 09:58:10 PM »
I noticed it about a week ago, didn't give it much thought. Tonight I tried 5 or 6 times to get in WWI arena with no luck. I get there, sit and lag....nothing updates, no sound, dot map stays as it first appeared and after about 15 seconds, poof, host connection lost. I tried a few other arenas besides Late and everything was fine. Saw Scuzzi's post about the different I.P.'s so I tried every arena on the same server as WWI. All worked fine. Then I tried all the others, all worked fine. Then I went back and re-tried WWI. No go. ??? Only thing different that I can think of is that I updated my AV software, but every other arena works fine....could graphics settings affect connection? Was there an update to any of the WWI skins?  :x

Ran multiping, it's running right around 60ms with or without AV on. Logged into WWI arena with it on, lost connection, no significant changes to the ping. Flew in Late war for a few hours, no problems. :bhead

It could be your anti-virus interfering with the connection, or a firewall blocking those ports the WW1 arena runs on.

Tried it with anti-virus on and off. I used to get in there all the time and haven't changed anything hardware wise since I could. Could you tell me what port ww1 runs through, or is that a trade secret?  I think I can check it....one of my old programs I used to be able to turn them on and off...naw, that was an anti-virus program that I don't run anymore. I could still try. It's been a looooooong time since I messed with ports. Could it be anything else?

The ports aren't a secret, you'll find it here: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,68316.msg637923.html#msg637923, saying the port range is 2000 - 7000 for all arenas. And yes, it could be anything else as well: If your anti-virus has a firewall, check its settings and disable the Windows firewall. If not, reset the Windows firewall and make sure it's enabled. Also reset your Internet settings from the Control Panel, last tab on the right has the reset button. Although it's for Internet Explorer, it affects many other net related things! Un- and replug your router/modem from mains to make it boot and reset its connections. There's a more techie word for that, but I can't remember it right now... You might even want to reset the entire router to factory defaults if you have fumbled with the settings, that can be done either from your browser or by the reset button sitting deep in a hole. I'd recommend the software way, because different brands seem to need unequal times to press the button for a full factory default reset. Hope these ideas get your bi-plane airborne  :salute

2000-7000, that's pretty darn specific. I don't think I read that already. I've completely turned anti-virus OFF and I still can't get in the ww1 arena.

Many anti-virus programs cannot be disabled from mucking with stuff.  The "disable" function simply stops the program from reporting it.  What anti-virus is it?

Norton and McAfee, both. can get into a state where the only way to cure the problem is to remove the programs from your computer and re-install them.  Horrible programs.

The only difference between WW1 and the other arenas is the port address, from a network perspective.  Form a computer perspective, the data is different.  An update to an anti-virus could suddenly trigger a false positive and block the connection to the arena.

Kapersky, but I've got no reports under of AH under any events. Nothing at all under firewall, and nothing under web, file or system anti-virus reports. I run a pretty clean ship.

You might want to try putting AH on all possible ignore lists in Kaspersky. I have no idea whether it would help in your case or not, but it won't definitely do no harm.

Considering nothing in the WW1 arena has changed for years, it would indicate something on your computer has and whatever has changed is blocking access to that arena.

If it was an arena issue, it would be impacting everyone.

I am just following a logical path.

I upgraded my Kaspersky A-V from 2013 to 2014 as it was cheaper than another years subscription. I don't know why but it don't like the WW1 arena. I had go to: Settings, protection center, app control, manage apps, select Aces High, details/rules, exclusions tab, check Do Not Scan Network Traffic. Now it works. Lawd lawd... :old:

Interesting, I have Kaspersky as well... Still can't figure why it's this one arena.

Stupid anti-virus programs which act on data patterns are always going to be problematic for games.

But if this was the culprit, are you sure it would let me in the arena, wait 10 seconds and then boot me? Things load in there, it's not like it's an automatic disco right as I choose the arena. Plus before it wouldn't boot me, at the exact time it boots me now it used to make me switch from udp to tcp. Every time, just about 10-15 secs after logging in. Are you sure it couldn't possibly be some other reason than my antivirus program?

During the initial connect there is a lot of data being shoved at your computer.  Yes, an stupid A/V program will disco you in that first 10 to 15 seconds of the initial tower view.
