Do you remember when?
« on: August 10, 2014, 07:59:08 PM »
This post refers to pleasant/funny experiences you've had on aces high back when times were a little different. i would love to hear your stories.

My favorites,

massive goon raid, this made aces high freeze for a number of players
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLz1PPFzb_o

or tank Tuesday. When in the Dueling arena we would have up to 60 players and run games such as 40 t34 76mm attempt to take the town defended by 20 tiger tanks. Afterwards we would have a class/research study i taught that would teach players weak spots on tanks at what range and how much shots needed. Here We learned HE rounds were more effective against lighter vehicles and the tiger could be taken out in one hit if point blank on left of the driver with a t34 76. We eventually ran one of the first vehicle fights in the scenario server.

and one of my favorites. NOE gv base capture with the spawn to HQ  with 2 110s packed with all the fuel they could carry and a c47 one way mission. took HOURS to fly NOE to that alt and our c47 crashed first run so our 110s had to land on a field at high alt and wait. taking off was scary but the reaction on both countries was priceless.

So yes, your stories?

I will be making a jeep race terrain as soon as the new road system comes out.  I've had that planned ever since HTC released the video. :aok

I can't even read that map and my orienteering maps are more basic than that.

That was a pretty detailed map for it's time.  ;-)

Just a little bit before my start of my AW obsession...did they still swap out the eto and pto terrains every other month?

I do remember that PTO map though, Cz land did eventually made it to the top of the map some odd 6 to 7 years later or so... Oh and the atol ended up having a base for each side instead of all neutral bases at the atol...  Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Brooke «§»

My favorite past time was landing on runway with no wheels going 500mph.

Or going down huge hills and hitting ramps in H2H. Those were the days.

- High altitude kombat.

Used to be able to PM a rival CO...from like the 80th, 4th, or 412th and set up high altitude encounters where all the a/c stayed up top and fought it out over 10k, until one side prevailed or everyone was out of fireworks.

- the special event - SAPP vrs. JG11. - that was a hoot.

- those two little hills on the SW spawn at the ole tank town - what a campsite!

They did change them up.  I looked around, but I couldn't find a picture of the oldest terrain from 1988.

Although it seemed plenty big at the time, the whole map is only 36 miles x 36 miles (about 1.5 sectors x 1.5 sectors in AH).  :aok
