Then someone would exploit that and disable task group defenses to make it easy points/target for him and/or an enemy bombing it.  :old:

-1

A checkbox in the CV control panel that would disable all flight/vehicle spawn/manned guns in a task group. A CV commander could then maneuver the group into a desired position without running the risk of an individual alerting the enemy to the fleet's presence (auto ack reacting to an enemy threat still applies). If a player gives up command or is forced to relinquish control to a higher rank, then the setting is reverted back to open play. This is designed to help CV commanders with a plan in mind to get a task group into position with stealth so as to launch a coordinated attack later on. Of course, I'm the optimistic type so i see no way this could possibly be abused.

Regardless, flame suit on.

I never said anything about not wanting guns to flash a base. What i meant earlier was to lock guns so a single player couldnt start prematurely shelling a field and thus lead the enemy to the CV with the white shell smoke.

Yeah i'd modify to allow man guns to not be locked, by the time anything was in range it should be time to launch whatever mission was planned anyway. Not to mention the chance of running straight into an enemy cv.

I guess i underestimated the draw to side-switch/abuse this. In the future I shall stick to more popular wishes such as the meteor, v2 rockets, and nooks...

I don't think anyone here is attacking you. Take it as constructive criticism.  Good idea at the heart, but sadly it has a few drawbacks that outweigh it's good intentions.

I would say the problem that this is trying to solve is a real one. I just think that in exchange for total command of a CV your presence on board or say within the dar ring should be required. You don't have to take command till the boat is close to the target and if you arer planning on shelling it I assume you'll be in a gun anyway. Another thing is that players, especially new ones, are not familiar with the concept of a stealth artillery barrage,(it IS a bit counterintuitive,) and if you explain it to them they will stand down. Another thing you could do is not tie boat command to rank alone but to a combination including presence, ( both aboard and not AFK,) and the inclusion of the cv in a mission. Just ideas, it's pretty good the way is.
