And badum tish! ... The P-47D!  :aok

I would love to go tearing through a period correct, cartoon WWII landscape - blowing up rail yards, bridges, factories and armored columns.   :x

And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.

MH434 (Old Flying Company) is a 1943 model LF.IX with Merlin 66, so its performance is on par with the Spit XVI in AH. The Spit16's Packard Merlin 266 is an American license produced Merlin 66 with only minor differences. The Spit IX in AH is a 1942 model.
Skin is one thing, performance is something else.  Will be interesting to see what they do.

Wasn't the performance of the Merlin 66 pretty much unchanged from 1943 to 1945 on 100/130 avgas? Giving it 100/150 would make it very Uber and is probably not good business for DCS. They're selling each aircraft individually so they need to pick models that are fairly balanced in their WWII setup.

Yep.

But it is just a skin.  Until we know the specs we don't know which engine they are modeling.  Could be Merlin 61, Merlin 63, Merlin 66 or Merlin 70.  Most likely is the 66 for multiple reasons, including the skin, but until they say we won't know.

If one goes by the serial number, it is Merlin 66 powered. The a/c was manufactured in July 1943.

The AH Spit16 doesn't have 100/150 avgas either, but is is a match for the 109K. The Spit16 trades a bit of speed for better maneuverability with its bigger wings, but otherwise the two aircraft are nearly identical in performance.

I think the spit 16 out performs the K4 in a 1v1 dog fight AH all day. It turns and rolls much better. It will typically win on the merge because it can loop more quickly while retaining  E than a k4, so even if the K4 goes for the loop the spit could more than likely climb up to make shot. It is much more responsive than the K4, can pull loops much more quickly, and is very quick.

The k4 would have to have more E initially. The only thing the K4 really has over the spit is top speed but other than that they don't really compare in an evenly matched fight.

Can someone please explain to me about this DCS from their perspective. Oddly, I've never heard of it before. Is it online multiplayer too?

Sure, if it were a real airplane, but it isn't.  Because it isn't it means that you can put whatever skin you want on it.  We have that in AH on many aircraft, Spit IX among them.

I agree it probably will be Merlin 66, but that is by no means a sure thing.  They could easily model Merlin 61 and simply skin it like an LF.Mk IX.

I see posts saying the Mk XIV is planned for April, 2015 for DCS.

Reminds me of falcon 4.0, I pretty much decided it would be a lot better to just learn to fly a real plane hahah

If its not fighting people online then I don't really see much entertainment in it

It's the online play that makes it worth it. It isn't like AH with persistent servers etc. It's more like Il2 online play with many different server running missions etc.

Both. Lots of A2A player vs. player. Co-op player vs AI missions are popular for the air to mud fans...

It is challenging yes, but DCS World is free and comes with a P-51DT (unarmed two-seater) and a Su-25T ground attacker. Other planes and modules you have to buy.

50 cals? I see from their boards Kurfy is up to his usual nonsense, gyro gunsights this time.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB
