Thought some IXs had 2x50s instead of 4x303s, which are they planning?
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

From the look of that picture it's the standard C wing or "universal" wing with two Hissos and four .303 Brownings. The Spit16 in AH has the E wing.

Hmmmm. Well, like I say, 1943-vintage.

All their other birds seem to be late-war, high-alt, heavy-hitter monsters. Wouldn't a Spit XIV have been better?

It would be well matched against the 109K, 190D and P-51D if AH's Spit16 is an indication. We'll see. As Karnak said on the previous page the Spit14 is planned for April, 2015.

I hope they choose a clipped wing bubble top... That's my favorite.

I have to agree with you on that - much as I love the BoB shape, that bubble-canopy, 5-bladed prop, funky-wing Griffon thing is de-Gorgeous.

By such standards I never should have signed up with AH either ;)

Because we annexed Mexican territory after our Civil War?

What standard? Gorbi tore that wall down long time ago; or is there some boycott we are unaware of?
They're casting their bait over there, see?

Found a video of her. That enlarged rudder and stab really adds to the "sharkyness".  :aok

Can't say I like clipped and bubble canopy Spits.  I'll go with 'Ginger' Lacey's response when presented with bubble top Spit XIVs in Burma, something to the effect of "It isn't a bloody Spitfire."  He rejected the bubble top XIVs so they went to a squadron flying war weary Hurricane Mk IIs and Lacey's squadron got razor backed XIVs.

I agree that is is a different look than earlier Spits, but I still think it is very beautiful, and menacing like a shark. I've never liked the look of the Malcolm hood. It disrupts the lines of the canopy and looks like an afterthought... Which it also was. I've often wondered why a bubble canopy wasn't introduced earlier in Spits like the VII and VIII.

Vintage Wings of Canada Spit XVI

See it occasionally as it is based across the river in Gatineau.
