Hitech allows us to move the convergence points, which in some gunsight LoS, changes high or low in response. That is how he built his solution. In the real world harmonizing the guns and LoS is what we are describing. Pulling the convergence is one leg of the combined process.
Harmonization
1. - Bore Sighting
2. - Convergence
3. - Gunsight LoS
Bore sighting by intent was to enable the highest look over the hood by the gunsight, possible and practical. Elevation lugs had about 2-3 degrees azimuth. 2. and 3. can be anything the pilot and armorer agree upon. Or the factory default, or the default described by the relevant fighter command. Convergence and LoS were either set for the effective range of the guns. Like the AN\M2 was 1200ft, so convergence was usually short of that starting around 1000ft.
No one in this game is looking at convergence correctly. They don't see it as the effective range of their guns. They see it as some magic point in the distance to pick other players from safety and get away. If you look at Hitech's choice of default convergence, they seem short in fighters with wing mounted guns. In most cases they are set for effective range and the historic first point at which the rounds passed up through the gunsight LoS. And effective range, that describes the core principle of WW2 fighter gunnery. Your con, for every 100mph, lead by that many 50Mil radii at 1000ft while it is traveling 90 degrees to your line of travel. This was the default principle for all nations in some form.
I wish Hitech would give us control over our gunsight LoS and convergence. Bore sighting was pretty much a fixed relationship in each wing gun fighter to a point at about 2000ft. This created the highest point of the ballistic arc at about 1000-1200ft with the gunsight LoS set through that 1000-1200ft point. Past that point pilots learned how to aim with their reticle. Unless you were German or Russian. But, then, we have changed the subject to zero azimuth mounted HUB cannon and wing root mounted fuselage parallel cannon. And here again I wish Hitech would simply lock the engine mounted cannon to the engine zero line just like in the real fighters. He has done that to the B25H and the AH universe didn't disintegrate. The players didn't even notice. They just learned to use their gunsights.
