Kills In a Row Displayed
« on: September 13, 2014, 01:51:11 PM »
Hello,

I think it would be cool if there was a message that displayed how many kills in a row you get.  That is inclusive over multiple sorties of course.

Not all of us need or use the rearm pad.

Thanks for considering,

Does in a row mean kills over sequential sorties until the sequence is ended by failing to land?

That or death before next kill.  What ever makes the most sense.

Fighter Ace had this listed next to the player's icon - they were called Aces. For every 5 kills, a * would appear by your name. It was a great way of adding an element of competition.

I think this is a interesting idea, but not sure what purpose it would serve.

If there's one thing this game needs, it's more incentive to only engage when you have every possible advantage, and run immediately when you lose it.

It probably would have that effect for some, but only the ones who do it already so what difference would it make.

I agree that having 'a name in lights' is attractive to some players, including potential new players in the future.  We currently only acknowledge individual successes once a month.

I quit Fighter Ace in 2000, so my memory is a little dodgy.  Wasn't the player call sign displayed as part of the A/C icon in game with the 'rack' tagged onto the end of it?

As a general rule, if I remember correctly, the largest racks (sometimes over 50 kills) were worn by the guys we love to hate here.  There's nothing like an icon that looked like "Xabbaras **********" to clutter up your gun sight.  Especially when the pilot in question was picking the edges of a furball all night.

Since we don't display call-signs on icons, just the A/C type,  you could put something like that on the in-game roster, perhaps.  I wouldn't look at it anyway.  Obviously, I don't care too much about scores and 'racks', but others might like it.

I also remember the notion of military ranks in Fighter Ace.  It took the average jasper about 3 hours of killing newbies in the training arena to make General although the majority of players earned it properly over time.

I'm all for things that will bring folks back to this game.  Even this, I suppose.  But I'd like to see new ideas not inspired by games that folded.  How does War Thunder acknowledge their successful players today?  <--- a serious question.  Since Gaijin is really the same Russian designers and coders from 'Fighter Ace', are they doing 'racks' and such?  I really don't know.

Really?  I wasn't aware of this.

If you got more than 5 it went to number form so  _Bruv_  *50.

Really?  I wasn't aware of this.

I did some sleuthing this morning to refresh an old and tired memory.

Perhaps there's some slight speculation in my definitive comment.  The trail is Mark Vange "Maverick" - VR1 - Microsoft - Ketsujin Studios - perhaps Gaijin Entertainment.  VR1 used Russian developers (late of the demised Russian space shuttle program) to develop Fighter Ace.  Vange is more than an entrepreneur and was among the pioneers of MMO.  My speculation is that, because talented developers don't simply go away and the similarities of War Thunder to FA with regard to art, flight models and game play is inescapable, the same guys provided the foundation to both games.

So, in honesty, I can't prove what I asserted.  However, I think it makes sense and would welcome comment from those who know more about it than I do.

I'm sure you are correct, but I believe your example represents the final evolution of the kills display in FA.  To the original post:  would we want in-game icons in Aces High to display a callsign and a running kill count?

I'd like to think too that, compared to many other changes, this would be an easier one to write code for.

Thanks again for considering it.  :salute
