Yellow Dots?
« on: September 23, 2014, 09:08:39 AM »
On the clipboard map there are small yellow dots in the vicinity of the airfields, sometimes they are outlined in red and blinking. What do these dots represent?

Thanks.

Towns. When flashing it means an enemy is in range of the town.

And "range" in this case is 12.5 miles..

Sometimes the town flashes before the base due to the location of the town, and the base.

For aircraft.  Vehicles is much closer.  If you see a town flashing and there is no bardar in the sector, and the field isn't flashing, either there are GV's inbound or there's something in the air just outside the dar circle as stated below.

Which in turn can often be used to determine location and course of bombers trying to skip all base dars on their way to a remote target.  :old:

And, another useful technique using town flashing info when your dar is down:

I was defending a base last night which had the radar down, but was able to utilize the flashing of the town (by noticing if it flashed before the base, after the base flashed, or virtually simultaneously) to predict the ingress direction of enemies flying toward the base, allowing me to intercept them more effectively.

Technically the yellow dot on maps is the map room.
If you right click on your radar map, Escape key, and bring up the menu there is a legend option that explains most map icons.
