Silly for Scotland to try to secede.  For as small as the countries are in Great Britain, they need to band together for economic and mutual support.  Just for comparison, the entirety of Great Britain is miniscule compared to the United States.

DaveBB, you're forgetting that the UK and its member nations are also part of the European Union. If Scotland had seceded from the UK they would undoubtedly still be an EU member. And the non-EU countries (like my own) in Europe are part of the EU common marked even if they're not part of the EU political union. The EU is an economic powerhouse that rivals your own great union.

Anyways... It's a moot point.

I know it does not matter now, but if Scotland had left the UK it would not be automatically be part of the EU. It would have to apply to become a member, and from what I heard, some EU members were already saying that they would not accept Scotland. Some EU members were worried about promoting separatist ideals, and others feared that the Scottish economy (and all its debts) would further harm the Euro.

Here is another very interesting map, showing that individual states in the U.S. have the same GDP as entire countries.  Mind you, this map has not taken into account the enormous oil and natural gas boom that has continued to develop in the U.S.

That map misses the point... Each state in the USA is a country. The USA is a federal union like the EU. So is Russia btw.

He's not tormenting anyone even though that seems to be his only purpose here.  I've learned a long time ago not to argue with people who act like fools.  I'm out.

Each state can make its own little laws, all of which are trumped by Federal law.  But no one even gives a second thought to crossing a state's border.  You have passports and checkpoints and all that stuff in the European Union.  Plus we all speak the same language in the U.S. That's a huge difference compared to the EU right there.
