Sure all are welcome.

My name is Mark, I've always been interested in MVRichtofen, named a dog Baron once in high school and my friends afterward often referred to me as the Baron. I just wish I actually owned land worth something  :rofl

Someday I will, as my life's dream is to run a wildlife/outfitting ranch. I've been scouting land to do such with since my early 20's. I can find the elk, etc...just need to accumulate the wealth; no rich uncle's...

Of sports events that I have planned for the rest of the year, it's next week; Redskins and Cardinals, no RGIII so I'm not nearly as excited. Anyhow, it's Phoenix and there's always something, Coyotes maybe? I'll have to look at their schedule.

I'm in nursing school though now and my time is very limited. X-mas break for 3 weeks is about the only time for the next 8 months that I don't have half of my week taken up by one assignment or another.

Where are you looking for such land?  I'm assuming someplace with a climate more green than around Phoenix?

How much land would be needed, and what does it cost these days?

When I first started looking at the idea Colorado was high on the list, climate being more conducive to longer seasons and ability to hunt. Rancher/land owning outfitter permits were more accommodating back then too. Colorado is probably completely off the list these days; the great Cali/NY/Chi-town migration has changed the social climate there considerably...

These days ID, WY and UT are probably the top of the list. Idaho's weather doesn't permit a long hunting season, but they are very outfitter friendly.

To understand my idea a little more: I don't need to own really all that much land, although that would help, but its orientation to national forest is the premium. Celebrities keep changing this arena; the latest trendy area to own their vacation props only seems to last for a decade. By the time I'm ready to do this things will again have changed, possibly considerably. Celebs screwed up Montana with that in late '90's early 2000's, idk where MT is regarding this anymore. Everybody back then wanted "a river runs through it".

Leases on other land, to include BLM is also a big part of the equation. The situation really can't be evaluated at great length until the actual time comes. In the meantime I just keep my eye out every now and then; Google Earth changed my ability to watch, big time.

Atm I'd say any Rcky Mtn state is a potential candidate, as elk are my focus.

It would be an honor to fish and share the rail Bailey. Some west coast tuna would be good for the soul; someday too I'd like to fish the gulf and atlantic for pelagics.

Say, I won some Striper snelled leaders on a tuna trip, two packages, do you have any need for them? Postage might be more than they cost, idk what the going rate is on these...

Whats your last name Mark?  Do you not want to give it out for public reasons..?

On another note, those are some good ideas about the outfitter thing..   Man to man, tell the truth, do you sometimes wish you had made some better decisions or choices as far as getting yourself on track? Do you think maybe taking some things back when you were younger and more naive would have helped more? Just an honest question.

There's a couple reasons it would be unwise to disclose that on the bbs for me.

Better decisions, sure. If I had it to do over again armed with more knowledge. But that aint gonna happen, best I can do now is be as prudent as possible without turning into a total hermit. My brother was murdered (in a heinous home invasion) when I had just turned 21, I was away in college and it took us 12yrs and 5 trials to get .5 justice (only one in prison). Not much I could do about that and it derailed me for quite some time, every year we were either in trial or preparing for trial from 1998 to 2008.  The one in prison for life was originally convicted, two years later reversed on appeal, free on bond. Next trial for him, 2 straight hung jury's (dissenting amount of jurors were 4 and 2 out of 12 in retrial). Trial 4: Re-convicted; AZ Sup Court just declined to hear his latest appeal, we'll find out next couple of months if he tries to takes it to the 9th circuit. I am very grateful that Phx had a County Attorney then who saw the reality of this crime and was prepared to send it to trial as many times as it took. I know some people don't get to see any justice.

Life can change in an instant; smell the roses.

:headscratch: Right, this from the guy peddling stoned driving day in and day out on his bbs sig, whatever turns your gears man..

And Mark, I've dealt personally with such "heinous people" in my life also, no reason to hide from them, they should know exactly where you stand, and the taste of a cold steel gunbarrel too if thats what they really want..  There will always be wicked people, lost losers, trying to drag you down, don't go with them.. stick to your guns, be your own best friend day in day out
