How to configure DSR

After updating to 344.48 right click on your desktop and choose Nvidia Control Panel (hereafter referred to as "NCP").



Then click where it says "Configure SLI, Surround, PhysX



Where mine says "Span displays with Surround" yours may be different if you do not have three monitors, or SLI these options will probably be inactive (grayed out). You may need to do nothing here, but the idea is to reduce the active monitors to a single monitor. (NOTE: This is not actually a correct diagram for Surround configuration, but does allow for a smoother transition from Surround to DSR)



I have to choose "Maximize 3D performance" and then click on "Apply."

The next step is to choose "Manage 3D Settings."



Here you can see the Global Settings tab where you can change the settings for "DSR - Factors." You can choose to multiply your available resolution (native resolution) by different factors from 1.25 to 4.0 and to smooth the results. I have factors of 2.0 and 4.0 active with a smoothing of 100%, but this may not be optimal for everyone.



The final step for the NCP is to change your settings for Aces High. You may not have this available for AH if you have not added AH yourself. You may click on the "Add" button and browse to your AcesHigh.exe to add it to the NCP app. Again, the settings I have may not be optimal for you.

Now you will start AH and click on the "Video Settings" link.



Here you can either turn on Anti-Aliasing (AA) the first notch, or turn it off (if you are using a 4k monitor off may be better). The texture size you set here  determines if you are using the HiRes Pack, or not. The Factored Resolutions will appear under the "Video Resolution" link.



After you click "OK" the AH engine will bring the clipboard back and you can enter Offline, or Online as usual. Then, click "Options" and then "Graphic Detail," and finally "Advanced." You can modify your settings until you get consistent frame rates here.

Now if you look at the settings in the NCP again you may notice that I have FXAA on in "Program Settings," but off in "Global Settings." Especially if you are using SweetFX you should use FXAA, but you may not like how it affects other programs and your movie player. Also, you can see I am not using the special SLI AA settings. You can do your own testing if you wish, but in SLI I found that DSR was doing enough and the additional AA is not of much benefit.

Hey Chalenge or anyone else, have you heard of this problem?

I just switched to my new monitor today, ROG Swift 1440p 144hz.  It wouldn't go to 144hz in native resolution, just 120, so I deleted the drivers, and reintalled.  After that, it worked NP.  However, I lost all of the settings boxes in NCP for DSR.  They only return now when I disable card 2 (970 sli).  I've tried re installing the drivers again, but now luck, and I've fiddled with every setting I can find.  Before with my 144hz Asus 1080p this AM, I could use my 2 970 in SLI no problem, but just switching to this new monitor seems to have made the setting options boxes for DSR say bon voyage.

I tried both with and without (preferred) having GeForce experience installed and running, same results, the only way to get DSR options to return is to disable the SLI.  I know it's been working with both 970 cards for the last couple days on my 1080p monitor, but no longer with my 1440p one.

I've searched the web high and low and can't find any solutions.  Hoping someone here has one.

Typical.  Spend time typing out post and 2 minutes later "bing bong" on the Ipad with incoming mail from Nvidia.  Apparently it's a known issue with the new Swift monitors, and they have a fix for it with the next driver version.  

I'm pretty impressed with Nvidia as of late, some decent products giving good performance for the $, some good new drivers giving DSR to tons of folks - I'm hoping AMD can come back, as I've always liked their company even though I've mostly stuck with Geforce stuff.

The new 1440p 144hz monitor is pretty good.  I can't get Aces High to show over 100fps, even when the monitor shows in the onscreen monitor that it's running at 144hz - again, I've tried every setting, the AH video panel on the entry screen, turning vsync off there, and turning vsync off everywhere in the NCP - still, 100 max in the AH little green numbers panel.  It was 143fps this AM on my 1080p, not sure why it's not the same with the 1440p one, especially when it's saying 144hz on screen while in play.  I've tried it with Gsync on and off, with ulmb on and off - still won't go over 100fps max.  Odd, any idea what I'm doing wrong, or is this just another possible "known issue" that I just don't "know" about.

Still and all, Aces High at 1440p on this panel with Gsync running sure is smooth, looks great as well.  Other games are outstanding looking, and the Gsync with stuff like Arma3 and the like is pretty neat so far.

There will be other issues with SLI. We are still early in the driver development stage.

Any ideas why I can't get over 100fps max in AH, or that the disable vsync setting in AH control panel on the startup screen for video isn't working?  It worked with these cards/drivers and the 1080p monitor with 144hz set, but not with the new 1440p 144hz set.  It even shows 144hz is set, you can change it with a 'turbo' button on the side of the ROG Swift, and it'll drop to 60fps at 60hz, and so on, but when it climbs back up to 144hz, 100fps is the max the AH counter will show, while with the other monitor, like I said, 143fps would be there.  Other games are showing 144fps when maxing out at the 144hz setting of the new 1440p monitor.  I can't figure out how to get it to do the same as it did with the 1080p 144hz monitor like before with AH. 

Anything I might have missed?

Are you depending on the game settings, or allowing the NCP to do the work? Is Vsync set for smoothing? Are the Global Settings conflicting with the same settings in the Program Settings tab?

Well previously I had NCP set up for AA and all those settings and had AH setting turned off, but so far as vsync goes, I always just had it set to on with NCP and the vsync box in AH control panel left alone.  144hz would give me 143 fps with the 1080p 144hz monitor.  Same settings with the new 1440p one however, AH shows only 100 max, no matter WHAT settings I try, and I've tried every single one, Gsync on and off, vsync off in the AH control panel - that one I find weird, as you would think it would fly off scale in game, but it still sticks at 100fps max....and I've tried that one with every possible combo in NCP both in the general and game specific settings.  And the truly odd thing is one I hit the monitor button which shows current game mode, it shows 1440p @ 144hz in the readout, but again, only 100fps maxing out in AH.

Gman, have you tried using a benchmark like Fraps? Just to see if GSync is messing with the AH FPS reading somehow?
