A Bored Crab Playing Minecraft...
« on: October 26, 2014, 09:31:09 PM »
Started a new world and to my detriment I started in a Jungle biome, by far my least favorite. However I spotted a large river nearby and to me that means lots and lots of clay. "Clay is essential for crafting seared bricks to construct a smeltery".

So I followed the river and to my luck it crossed into a Plains biome! Then even luckier for me I came across monstrous Redwood trees! This meant I could build large tree house high up to be safe from the mobs!

As I steadily acquired resources including the oil spring, I decided to get a base upgrade out of the way while I had 4 fresh quarries gather additional resources!

Placed images as straight links instead of embedding them into the thread so that it doesn't bomb your browsers... You're welcome!!  :old:

I started a new world with large biomes, started in a freaking snow plains... surrounded by a tiaga, and another snow planes. I got fed up, cheated into creative and proceeded to spend the next 45 minutes (that's no joke) flying east until I finally found a forest biome to set up shop in.

The seeds have been like that lately since 1.6.4. For some ungodly reason there seems to be a dominant biome. Before I stumbled upon the Oil Spring I noticed that Plains biome I set up on was nearly surrounded by the Jungle Biome and it still extended 50+ chunks in every direction.

Do you use FTB? Biomes'o'plenty/Natura tends to make the seeds a bit more fun and hard biomes less of a pain.

I usually run vanilla. I used to play tekkit but in SP on my computer got very slow very quickly (probably from the +5km pipe network for sorting and processing). A... misshap with my reactor rendered that world useless since it kept crashing every time I tried to load it. MP is a totally different ball game. The more popular servers can handle the mods but competition for resources is fierce, less popular servers are better but struggle with all the mods.

Finally dried up the oil spring. Was able to convert it and transport it all to two storages tanks "one in the tree house and one along the rail for the quarries"...

Total Amount Of Fuel Left:
3,770,454 MB
Or
3,700 Buckets Of Fuel

3,700 x 83 = 307,100 Minutes Of Fuel In A Combustion Engine
Or
5,118 Hours Of Fuel In A Combustion Engine

I don't think I'll be needing fuel for a while... Even if I'm using 6 Combustion Engines to power 4 quarries and 10 water pumps...

I never understood the point of Minecraft. If I wanted to build something I would build something real instead.

Same reason people play Aces instead of flying real planes all the time.

To get the Minecraft experience, you'd have to build in Gaza though... to simulate the creepers blowing your toejam up.

Mods... easy mode  :neener:

Some mods yes "The Morph Mod"

Many others make it more immersive. Especially stuff like Railcraft!

With Railcraft you're forced to craft machinery in order to just craft several types of rail. Then it can become a real resource hog when you're looking to get auto-loader/unloaders, locomotives, and storage tanks.

Then there's stuff like Tinker's Construct that isn't much more different than a more useful Anvil + enchanting table. Just the acquiring the resources for stuff like Nether Stars are more than enough to nerf the acquisition of the super-weapons/tools. Sure Lapis is a little overpowered but it takes up slots preventing you from stacking too much good stuff on a single tool/weapon "hence the difficulty of acquiring Nether Stars and Diamond-Crusted Apples"

And even after that the really "easy mode" stuff is just not feasible until late-late game! "Powersuits and Drills" - at that point are those even necessary when you're more than likely swimming in loot?
