I'm planning on making a movie in the near future but I don't have anything to put it together with. I was wondering if someone could suggest something simple. I just need to slap a bunch of clips together and add some music.

You could use Windows Movie Maker, if you have that.  It's free.
I used to use Sony Vegas, but I've been messing around with Adobe Premiere lately.  I'll probably sick with Premiere.

One program that might work if all you want to do is add AVI in the right order without effects is Veedub64. Its great at turning huge Fraps files into much smaller clips. You can combine files together in the right order but there is little control beyond that. It is also free. You can add music to the clip, but it will override all other sounds. I fixed this by exporting the sound using Veedub, to Audacity (another free program). Audacity lets you edit the sound file and add new layers/effects/adjustments etc. You then export the Audacity file and use it when you compile the file in Veedub.

I use After Effects and Premiere now (with some help from Vee and Audacity).

The opening title screen is created in After Effects and the end link screen is after effects and photoshop.

Sony Vegas alll the wayyy...Not as fancy as Premier but certainly easier to use and very powerful in its own right if used correctly.

Film Viewer sucks, bad lol. Which is why I don't edit videos.

Start the film viewer and load your film.

Start in the cockpit.

Use your arrow keys and page up/down to move your point of view to the spot you want to use.

Click F8 and rotate your view with the keypad and look at your aircraft.

Set zoom level.

Click on Set Up Camera Shots.

Select New Shot.

Select Shot Type, for example World Pointing

In the Starting Camera section select Grab All.

In the Ending Camera section change duration from 0.500 to 10000000.00 or thereabouts.
I have no idea what the units are.

Click Play Shot and the film will play with your selected point of view.

I barely know what I'm doing with the film viewer but that should get you started.

Veedub looks like it's going to be my tool of choice for the project. Running a test on a few of the clips that I have so far to see how well it works.

The best setting I have for compressing files with Vdub is :

Set Compression to:

Xvid MPEG-4 Codec

Set Audio and Video to Full Processing Mode.

Then Save the file as an AVI. Works a treat on those huge Frap files.

All my movies are done with the film viewer.  I currently use Sony Vegas to put it all together.
