Airwolf
« on: November 06, 2014, 07:06:57 AM »
Watching an old episode of Airwolf (Severance Pay S2 Ep20) on Esquire and loving it. That show was based so far from reality, yet you never questioned it. Like How the heck can a helo fly supersonic and not rip it's rotors off? Stealth and whisper mode. How can it hold enough fuel? Little stuff like that.

But in this particular episode the bad guy is flying a P-51D "with 50 millimeter cannons in the wing". I know it was all fantasy to begin with, but if you are going to reference a Pony at least get the guns right. That or I demand Hitech give me a Pony D with the 6x50mm wing cannons. The next thread will be me complaining about the wings of my Pony ripping off every time I fire my guns.

Anyway it's a fun show to watch. Esquire runs 3 episodes every Thursday morning.  :joystick:

It was the '80s. There was no internet. People didn't know better!  :lol

Loved the show!  :aok

Ah man good times...  The 80s had a few super vehicle shows.  Knight Rider I think started it off, then came Airwolf, then Street Hawk (knight rider, but with MOTORCYCLE!)  I don't recall Knight Boat being a thing, but it should've been.

I don't recall offhand, did people actually die when shot by Airwolf, or did they always escape the vehicle they were driving/parachute to safety?

If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

For '80s chopper action I was more into Blue Thunder. A perhaps more realistic "super chopper" and with a lot less use of stock footage. You can only watch Airwolf shoot down QF-4 drones so many times before it gets old.

But yeah... Airwolf would have kicked Blue Thunder's butt...

Ah... The '80s, when everything was "TURBO!"  :lol

I loved all of those as a kid.  My favorite was "The Highwayman" because he had a futuristic Semi Truck that transformed into a helicopter.  An Aussie jamed Jacko was the tough guy sidekick who also had a cool tractor trailer.

If I remember right, each of these 'lawmen' also hauled an exotic Italian supercar around with them too.

If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

If you use a VPN for Netflix and open up other countries streams, you can find Airwolf in a few countries like Mexico and the Netherlands and such IRRC.  I watched it again as well early last year, good times remembered watching it as a kid.  Everyone needs a supersonic helicopter.

edit - Rob, I was just thinking about that show the other day, trying to remember what it was called.  I remember the guy saying something about being in "The Blue Bullet", which was an ongoing joke back then.  Good stuff.

Streethawk WAS NOT Knight Rider on a bike.   :huh

However, the best of the best was Automan.  He could be whatever he liked.

The airwolf theme is my ring tone on my phone. Sadly hardly anyone knows what it is.  :(  One of my favorites growing up.

Was that the one shot down using the super sniper single shot option?

Ya know they only did that transformer stunt once in the entire series. It must have been a helluva PITA to make it work. The truck is now a tattoo parlor in Sulphur Springs, Tx.

Looking back on it, I bet Jan Michael Vincent was blitzed out of his mind on most of the episodes
