wait... the link you posted says 2.23$ per GB, that multiplied 800 times (800GB) is 1700+$... for 500 euros it would not be bad at all - still worths more than my entire puter though.

The real question is, how could you take use of this performance? Which applications can profit from this?

All operations on the computer which require loading of data (app starts, OS start etc) benefit from the speed. The link review I posted to was done when the pricing was still normal, I think this offer is available limited time only so I pulled the trigger immediately. Especially if it happens to be a decimal error at the shop.

I sometimes need to do test runs on several gigabyte databses and a regular hdd takes around 2 hours to load the test data. Using a sata ssd it happens in a few minutes and using this PCI-E SSD it's at least twice faster.

Doesn't change the fact that the Ferrari would be super cheap. It's not my problem if you can't afford it. Some people can't afford a Big Mac on 1 dollar discount price (several millions of people around the world actually). With your criteria that makes it very expensive I guess.

In this case the term "super cheap" depends on the purpose it will be used for. In Ripley's case he can save a couple of working hours every now and then. For his employer those hours may cost way over $/€50 each including all the statutory social and insurance costs we have here. Four such test runs he described will pay the SSD back for his company.

On the other hand, for me it would be a total waste of money. So would a Ferrari for any price, even "free" would be too much even if the fuel and maintenance costs were included! Of course it would be something to brag about, but I don't believe a Ferrari would excel in winter driving nor would it be handy for transporting goods from and to my customers - who might start to think I don't need their money for my living...

Sorry for the late answer - understood, but hey, 800 GB is a LOAD of space for OS and programs. IMO a 256GB one could be enough for anything i can imagine - unless we are talking about some special business sector tasks where time is money.

My puter has a 128GB el cheapo ocz sata ssd (im no too rich..) for the OS, autocad, solidworks and some other programs, there is virtually no loading-in time.

In this case I can get the fast and big 800gb model for 30% the price of a slower 256gb one. The 800Gb model doesn't even have a boot rom so it can't be used as a boot drive. That's why it's bundled with the 256Gb 520-series which does have a boot rom and uses sata port.
