I need a nice headset that won't fall apart through normal use.

The headband has cracked and fallen apart just from putting it on/taking it off my head too many times. I really need some recommendations. Prefer it to have a solid metal headband with cushioning, it needs to have a mic, as good sound quality as I can get, preferably under $60. I've gotten used to surround but they're just too expensive to have to replace all the time.

And by the way, the next one to mention Turtle Beach is a dead man.

Any help appreciated.

 Well all I can say is , no difference because its the same one. Get it, its really comfortable and the sound quality is awesome. even though its a 2.1, tied with my soundcard it is clear as a bell. The best part is its all steel construction.

This is the headset that I have my eye on.   I am done with Razer and have sold off my old gear.   ROCCAT is where it is at, as this is true 5.1 with no software needed.

I've upgraded everything this year except headsets.  New Asus LCD 1440p Gsyncs, new 970sli and 980 in both systems, new Corsair RGB Cherry Blue KB - I tossed the Razers as well, done with Chinese knock off switches and other problems.

I can't figure out which way to go with headsets.  I have 2 Steel Series right now, which are great for mounting TrackIR due to the width of the band, but nothing else about them is good.

What should I get, I've read and been told SO many different things about gaming headsets.  Price = not really an issue, 400$ I would spend to get a good gaming headset that allows TrackIR to attach without too much modding and taping.  

I was going to get the Sennheiser 363D, but they have a USB 7.1 soundcard, and I've read conflicting things about that.  Looked at Roccats, Corsairs, TB (blah), Astra, and a few others.  What is the best headset for gaming out there in the higher end segment, one that isn't too touch for the trackclip to attach to?  I don't have a sound card, just on board with both Sabertooth boards, but I could easily add one if needed I suppose.

Anyone tried or heard much about the Beyerdynamic MMX 300?

Sennheiser G4ME Zero or PC363D are probably one of the best. Sennheiser is a very highly regarded head-fi brand. I've owned Beyerdynamic DT660s in the past and they were good. I don't like headphones too much though, I'm a planar speaker guy.

Sony MDR-7506 if you do your own EQ, or MDRV6 if you just plug-and-play. If you use the SB ZxR you might also consider the Beyer DT990, but beware of the 600 Ohm setting when using the other headphones.

Any one of these three will save your ears over the other junk on the market.

What do you do for a microphone with those Sony sets though?  Every desktop mic I've ever tried = crap.

I've heard and read great things about the Psyko Carbons - very hard to find however.

Well, sound is something I don't skimp on. I have a Phonic 302 plus Firewire audio interface driving a studio condenser mic. My first mic was a $50 MXL 990 ($100 today). The MXL 770 is about $80. New motherboards don't have Firewire inputs, so I had to get a PCI 800/400 card.

Okay, what would be a good mic to use if I get a headset without one.  And where would it be mounted, on the LCD screen top, or someplace else?  How well will it pick up voice for gaming purposes and such, and where is the best place for it.  Something that isn't Firewire, just USB or able to use the regular mic jack.

I found a bunch of info, mics like the Blue Yeti and others in that 150$ or less range, I just want to know if they pic up voice from the desk stands that come with them, ie from a foot or two away.  I found the "modmic" as well, which many attach to audiophile/soundstage headsets to give them a boom mic.  Just want to know what the best option is.
