Orion Launch Thursday Morning
« on: December 04, 2014, 07:48:17 AM »
I have to leave for work in minutes.

You can go to any news site and NASA and watch and listen to the launch.

Had many minutes of enjoyment listening to countdown, and the delays behind the game and talking on country and 200 as it was happening.

They are in a hold right now.

Reminds me of the Mercury launches I watched as a child.

Good luck and <S> to all involved.

Launch scrubed today due to valve problem with rocket.  They are going to try again tomorrow at 7AM ET.

In my experience, nothing is ever what it seems to be, but everything is exactly what it is.

Watched this (chimpanzee Ham aboard) and all the Mercury shots from my front lawn on Patrick AFB.

I'll be watching.   :aok

Always wished I got to see one of the Saturn rockets launch, but they were all done using them when I was born

Bailey,

I will watch too.  However, I must to work very early.

If you watch, come in the game, and participate in the occasion.

I found earlier today that running whatever site you prefer behind the game gives you all the comms chatter of the engineers and controllers.  We all listened together and commented in real time about what we were hearing.

It was very very good.

That redstone is pretty small in real life.

One of my favorite places there is the bunch of old bicycles that have been there forever near the cafeteria.

WOW!

16 min into Orion's flight.

Whole thing took my breath away.

Some of the guys in the game listened to and watched the lift off.  Was great to do it together.

My what an event.

Can't wait for Nasa's new Space Launch System.  It's even bigger than the Saturn 5. Should have its first test launch in 2018.  You can bet I'll be down at the cape to see that monster lift off

Agreed. Really great to see.  Sorry I missed it in game but me and the kids watched it on Nasa Tv.  They then missed the schoolbus and I had to run them to school.  :lol

I was watching the last space X launch when it blew up just after takeoff. I didn't watch this one just in case I am a Jinx.  :noid

Really really exciting times in the space world. I hate the fact that I was born to late (about 20 years to late) to experience the space race and the moon landings. It's all so fascinating. I hope during my lifetime I get to witness a human Mars landing.

Also has anyone noticed how similar the whole Orion rocket and the re-entry pod look to the Apollo rockets and re-entry pod? I'm not sure if this speaks to lack of creativity nowdays or if the technology Nasa invented back in the 60's was just that good. Either way I'm still super excited for this program.
