Sorry you cannot use "Seemed" as an argument ether.

verb appear; give the impression

or by that logic, one of these;

Synonyms for seem

imply
look
show
sound
suggest
assume
hint
insinuate
intimate
pretend
resemble
be suggestive of
convey the impression
create the impression
give the feeling of
give the idea of
have the appearance of
have the aspects of
have the earmarks of
have the features of
have the qualities of
look as if
look like

 You see, the difference is I was not using probably as basis for a statistic. However, the gunman does in fact have a gun. So I'll retract my "seems" if it makes you feel better. My corrected statement now reads "The gunman had little issue getting a gun". Regardless, the bad guy has a gun and now the law abiding citizens have no choice but to be victims. It is easy to target a population that is forced to be unarmed.

Probaby prevented a dozen such incidents so far :) Hard to keep someone at gunpoint when you have no gun to point. Even if the patrons would have been packing, starting a shootout in a full cafe with a maniac wouldn't end very well and the shooter would most likely be prosecuted if survived.

Except like Pewter said HE HAS A GUN. I'd rather have one and not need it than need one and not have it.

And those 100 other nutjobs that do _not_ have a gun we never hear about. Gee, I wonder why?

With all these innocents lives on the line it would seem awfully selfish to turn this into a pro/anti gun discussion.

If their lives somehow depended on our discussion I would agree.

If they were serious nutjobs they'd find a gun (or other instrument) like this guy did. They are just sad people with ideas. It's when they act on those ideas they become dangerous. Bad people do bad things and always find a way to accomplish them. Why should good law abiding citizens suffer for it? This is just the world we live in unfortunately.

Also, just saw that it's reported as over. Hope everyone made it out safe there.  :pray

Yes but arguing that having free gun laws would stop things from happening is false. At the same time this happens and 3 die in AU in Philly 5 die in a domestic shootout.

ah..so for you, it is the NUMBER of people that is killed that make your take notice, not how they die.

so if say only one person was killed that would not be a tragedy to you.

Not a single person has said having free gun laws would stop things from happening. Having free gun laws will let the law-abiding citizens protect themselves when one of these things happens. Gun laws do absolutely NOTHING to curb violent crimes. All they do is make the law-abiding citizens helpless against those crimes. Criminals couldn't care less about your stupid laws except that they make your people easy prey for these criminals. The great thing about free gun laws is that they give people like you the ability to still choose to be victims but it also allows others the choice to not be victims. Law-abiding citizens are not the ones you need to look out for, it is the criminals that execute these plans that you need to look out for and they do not care about your laws.

It's all about relativity. If I had to choose between 5 or 1 I would choose 1. The point is that if people can get access to handguns without proper background checks, mentally unstable persons have a very easy and legal access to weapons. This puts their friends, families and bystanders at risk. Not to mention the tragedies with children finding their uncles/parents guns and accidentally shooting themselves or their siblings/cousins/friends/parents.

I have fought with my wife many times about having a gun in the house (well not FOUGHT but discussed). It wasn't until our children were born that I saw her point - I'm just too sloppy a person to leave a gun in the house with children. It takes a real pedantic type of mind to be REAL careful with it at all times when children are around.

But on some level I also agree with you guys - illegal guns will always be available for criminals. But I surely endorse proper control for at least the legal ones.

PROPER BAKCGROUND CHECKS!
what the heck will that do?

my state has the MOST restrictive laws PERIOD! and still the bad guys(and gals) get guns.

but for the auzzies, you cant own guns PERIOD, so that means, the people down under will put the yanks to shame with having ZERO gun related incidents.

but hey this was only one compared to all the ones the US has, right?
so if you cut the number of people killed by guns each year from 12 to 6...hey its a success!

You and your wife surely made the right decision.

I grew up with several guns in the house and when I raised a family of my own, our guns were there.  When my three boys reached the age where guns piqued their interest, the wife and were quick to explain these are simply tools that must be respected.  We did the same with knives, cars, etc...

We also raised them to be respectful of all people and animals, and to be humble.  I am glad to see them becoming men now instilled with good values.  Not one of them has ever thought of picking up one of the guns I have given them (or bought on their own) to settle an argument.

It's not that hard....

Your passion is commendable, but uneducated. Australians can own guns, there are simply restrictions on caliber size and what type of guns are allowed.

Even England, from which Australia modeled many of its gun laws and which is one of the strictest nations gun-control wise, allows private gun ownership.

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB
