the one he listed is rated at 5ms. That's pretty darn good in my book.

No monitor is 'rated' for input lag. This monitor has a 24ms input lag which makes it non suitable for serious fps gaming: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_34um95.htm

You're confusing g2g response times to input lag apparently. Folks, g2g response does NOT equal input lag. Even the measured g2g time is 9,5ms on this screen.

My Acer 1600x900 is slowly committing suicide, was wondering if anyone knew if I could get a decent 1920x1080 for around $100-150?

Look for Benq reviews. It's awesome value for money. Another one is Acer but I wouldn't pick that brand myself, too many bad experiences.

Thanks for that, found this http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-GW2255-21-5-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00AX9Z6MU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1420699442&sr=1-1&keywords=BenQ+VA+LED+GW2255+21.5-Inch+Screen+LED-lit+Monitor

Looks pretty good to me, might be able to get it next month. In the mean time I'll have to use an old HP 1024x768 if the Acer pops its caps before then. :uhoh :cry

I was reading on a site that 24ms is exceptionally fast, well atleast as far as an HDTV goes and according to the site while not ideal for competitive FPS games it certainly would be acceptable.

My vision is rather poor so I need a large display, presently I use an LG 55 in monitor/tv. It;s rated at 120hz but I can only get it to run at 60 with a pc. I have been exploring overclocking it to run at 120hz as I wait for either an OLED or better yet a 4K OLED to play nice with video cards!

I was surprised to see some HDTV's had input lag of up to 90ms,the average was about 40 and the ones considered "good" for gaming were in the mid30's to high 20's, IIRC the best I saw was about 18ms in a dedicated pc monitor.

A TV is not suitable for fast gaming, you are correct. Even the best of the TVs have considerable lag. There are monitors that have virtually zero input lag. Their lag consists mainly of the display panel delays.

In fast first person shooters input lag causes your shots to miss because when you try to track your enemy you don't see what's actually happening but what happened 50-100ms before. In fast movements this is enough to make you miss your shots or lose the duel when an enemy pops from behind an obstacle.

For Aces High input lag is not an issue because everything happens much slower.

Here's one source that lists input lags per monitor model (the same site also contains comparisons for HDTV:s by the way) http://www.displaylag.com/display-database/

This database lacks many brands such as Eizo which is famous for building low input lag monitors. Eizos Foris line is specially built to eliminate input lag. http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1383107475

so the HDTVs on this site with sub 20 lag would be great for FPS and AH?

For HDTVs they're very good yes. If you must game using a tv these are the ones to pick.

Short of Googling 'your tv make and model input lag' I can't say :) And remember that if you Google for TV input lag, you need to be _very_ specific in the tv model number. For example Sony 655303 and Sony 655302 may have same features, look exactly the same but be built with a different hardware, other has cheaper LCD panel, cheaper image processing etc.

If it's not on the list I provided then it's Google for me too.
