Skins for different variants...

A general question:

The very nice Hurri skin that Greebo just put out got me to wondering;  The skin was originally on a Mk IIC Sea Cane, which we do not have.  Now, if HTC were to pump out the Mk IIC say, 2 months from now, what would happen with this skin on the Mk IC?  This question also applies to all the other planes that have been skinned as a different variant that what they really are.  Another Example:  I believe we have a few (if not all but the default) skins on the Ju-87 that are not the D-3 we have.  And I believe at least 2 are for the B.  What would happen to those when we get the B variant?

When new planes are released I usually ask HTC about any possible skin variant issues and post their replies in this forum for other skinners to see. So the Sea Hurricane MkI/II switch was considered acceptable as the Mk II is not likely to be introduced into AH in the foreseeable future and it looks almost identical. Same thing with the Stuka really, you can skin any dive bomber variant on the D skin so long as it saw service in WW2.

To be honest I doubt we would see any more variants of those or any other plane unless the whole 3D model was redone at some point in the future. If the model is redone the issue of existing skins then becomes a moot point. In the past HTC has only very rarely introduced a new variant of a plane without redoing the whole 3D model for the other variants at the same time. Offhand the only ones I can think of added to an existing 3D model were the P-47M and N. Prior to the M's introduction it used to be forbidden to skin an M on the D-40 model despite them being visually identical.

If any skinner has doubts as to whether a variant is acceptable they should contact Skuzzy and ask him before doing any work on the skin.

In both of these cases, the use of those skins on the current model is acceptable because HTC has stated specifically that they will not be making those other variants. Therefore, any Ju87B can be skinned on the D-3 and any SeaHurri2 on our SeaHurri1.

Other examples are, Ki43I and II on our KI43, 109E-3,4,7 on our 109E, F4F-3 and 4 on our F4F, F6F-3 and 5 on our F6F, FW190A-4,5,6 on our 190A-5. There are many more.

What makes these substitutions acceptable is the similarity of the performance and appearance(same basic engine and weapon configuration) of the real plane to the AH model.

For example, here are a few known subs that wont work.

P-51A on our P-51B
LA-5F on our LA-5FN
B-17F on our B-17G

GOOD QUESTION. BUT REMEMBER. THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN UPDATE IN ONE YEAR(JAN 2014 WE GOT THE TU-2)  and so getting another aircraft and the terrain would be nice. but i think it would be an aircraft that would be more useful. like another carrier based us aircraft, or an update to a current game aircraft like the ki-61( getting the late or earlier example added)
