The P39 and why it is amazing.

It does seem in AH that Yaks and La's are much better than the P-39, but interestingly 3 of the top 5 (and 6 of the top 10) Soviet aces flew the P-39.  And that despite the Soviets having only 5000 P-39's, vs. 23000 Yak-7,9, and 3's and vs. 16,000 La-5 and 7's.

And many of those yak9's where not our Yak9u but earlier variants, La5 where not our uber La5FN, and most la-7's had only 2 cannons....

5000 P-39's (and not all P-39Q's but earlier variants) vs. 10,000 Yak-3's and La-7's.    (I think La-7's with only 2 cannons are still OK.)

He was willing to at first, but after a friend of his died while landing one he immediately went back to the P39, I doubt flew the LA7 in any combat sorties.  Rumor has it that the only plane he ended up taking over his beloved p39, was the epic P63

If you're referring to Soviet ace Alexander Pokryshkin, his friend Alexander Klubov was killed while trying to land a La-7.

From what I read the Russians liked the quality build and finish of the P39. If you throw the Russian P39 aces in with all the Allied Aces a bunch of them will end up at the top of the list.

Ive been flyin the 39Q in game and it isn't so bad considering what you are up against. I just wish the 37mm had a higher rate of fire. It feels like it holds it E decent. The D seems a bit more fragile. I threw it into a 500 mph dive once and it broke!   

I even got Bozon flying a "obsolete" <his word hehehe> P39 the other day! He seemed to of enjoyed the big cannon!    Huzzah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
