Vast historic racing photo archive
« on: January 26, 2015, 07:35:16 AM »
The Henry Ford Foundation has published many thousands of racing photos on Flickr. If you are into American racing (of any kind), you'll want to browse the 160 albums of rare photos. 1950s and on.... All are downloadable.

Note the offset suspension of the Coyote, to minimize loading and tire wear on the outside tires on oval tracks. Foyt wasn't the first to do this. Jim Clark's Lotus Indy cars had the same set-up. The reality was that the odd handling more than offset and gain of the offset. By 1969, this design practice was gone.

Below is a rear view of Clark's 1965 Indy 500 winning Lotus 38.

I remember listening to the lotus indy race on the radio and talking to my girlfriend who became my wife.  The announcers were really taken with the Wood brothers pit stops.
