Poor/Inclement Weather Conditions
« on: January 25, 2015, 09:04:25 PM »
With the new update, I thought of the use of putting certain feats for weather conditions like overcast, rain or snow into play. Maybe put scattered t-storms along with it. Edit the base, thickness, and precipitation of the clouds to however you set it to.

If you get your wish, be prepared for these eventualities:

"G-Damnit! my B-29s all crashed on landing because of the effin wind shear!  I want my perks back!"

"My 262 skidded off the runway because of the effin ice ! This game is BS!"

"We were about to win teh war but my M-3 got stuck in deep mud!  HTC hates our chess piece!"

"This isn't fair!  Our mission can't take off because the fog is too thick but their taking our bases!"

"What the eff?! - we snuck all the way to the enemy HQ and our whole fleet sunk in a typhoon!"

Weather effects may look "cool" or realistic, but won't help make the game better.

A layer of broken clouds at 20k or something like that would be nice. Buffs can hide in/above the clouds but they can also obstruct the target.

I never said anything about typhoons, or ice roads/runways, or anything like THAT. The fog thing, maybe, but decided not to do that. What I'm implementing is just basic poor weather that doesn't have to involve any crazy acts of violent rants and raves in the game. Just because I asked for it, doesn't mean I want ALL of it in the game, just simple things, i.e. rain or snow. These can just harmlessly drop down from the sky while pattering the windshield for a second, then disappear quickly. Same thing goes for the whole t-storm thing, except don't have the lightning kill the player while in flight or in a gv battle. And the terrain doesn't have to be all wet or frozen, just have it go through like nothing.

Whether it helps the game or not, it's just a wish, and I take responsibility if this goes through to pass. But it's like you said caldera, If I get this wish. If.

Us old farts can't upgrade because we have a wife.

I'm on my third wife, this one is much better about online flying.

Clouds would be a nice addition.  I would find it fun to shoot the occasional approach to minimums but realize most would not.  However a could layers of clouds that you could hide behind to pounce the enemy or that would be a factor in getting bombs on target would be good for the game, IMO.

I have fond memories of the Stalingrad map, back in AH1, that typically had a cloud layer separating the low fights from the high fights.  Somehow we lost that when AH2 came out.  I don't remember anyone complaining about having the clouds, and it did add some interesting aspects to the game.

The last discussion I remember about the clouds made no sense.  There were folks on laptops with no dedicated GPU that ran it fine and others who had decent rigs that would get FR's in the teens and below with the clouds.  I chalked it up to dark magic forces at work and spoke of it no more.
