"Pick" A four Letter Word
« on: February 06, 2015, 09:31:05 PM »
Twice I have PM'd someone who picked me as a compliment.  Both seemed to be offended. They caught me with a SA loss and that was well played by them.  These are both good players and good guys.

I pick any chance I get, and especially when I am trying to clear a green's six.

I have never heard someone say on Vox, "I'm not going to kill that plane because it would be a pick."

A WAG would say Picking makes up 60-70% of the fighter kills.

A good pick is a good kill and nothing to be ashamed of in AH.

I won't disagree. It's rather refreshing to see someone take responsibility for their own losses as well as their own wins. If everyone in AH did that this forum (and game vox) would mature to the point of surreality.

they most likely thought you were being sarcastic.

a pick is just that a pick...nothing special, someone wasn't paying attention...their fault...few can look at a situation and see their own fault in it, most instantly blame anyone else but them selves.

when you enter the MA...there should be a warning that pops up....

this is a no holds barred arena...you will get picked..HOed...Vulched...gang ed......fly at your own risk.

saying that....

I do believe that you should fly how ever you want...

but dont get mad when you become known for your actions.

(not saying anything about you randy on that last part....but if someone picks all the time and then complains about getting picked
or says they are fighters....and all they do is gang....)

people will know you by your actions....

If someone holds themselves to a higher standard so be it. A kill is a kill. You MUST invest a considerable amount of time both long term and just in a single sortie in order to set yourself up for success and if shot down a lot of times it angers players including myself. It's to be expected and I don't lose sleep whenever I'm called out for how I play. Whatever it takes before someone else gets the kill.

I humbly have to disagree....

a vulch kill is not the same thing as an earned kill...a pick is slightly more difficult then a vulch....

nether are no where near as worthy or satisfying as a kill at a numerical disadvantage.

IMO

Yeah like ink said, it is not "special" by any means. And in the MA there simply is no mercy for flying. It is just another way to get a kill when you have the chance. Being a good picker is a skill for getting quick kills and being in the right spot. Take messiah for example, or jayro, these two are atrocious pickers, and will snap you quickly as you are just about to kill the guy you are shooting.  But they are actually pretty good fighters. Everyone picks, end of story. I even think I'm a pretty big picker. It is hard not to be. And constituting a defined pick could be argued in terms of perception and judgement.

totally disagree,  the other day I vulched several planes with full ack up and werbies on the base.   I was in a 262.  That requires skill.  either that or stupidity.

A kill is a kill.

Reasonable minds have disagreed on this since these games were first invented.

The sheep herd psalm

Yeah though I fly through the low alt valleys of the furball
I will fear no picker for my situational awareness is awesome
And my wingman watches over me, giving me check sixes
My energy not waneth and my ammo load is plentiful
I seldom confuse my rod for my staff and, as such, am blessed
Lawd, just give me lotsa kills before I tower

The 1st "palm" of AH

"So seek to care less than thine enemy about your toon demise for caring more is surely the way of the wicked;  and the wicked will have no shelter from thine squeekers, pickers, HOers, vulchers and dumbmagnets"
"Such is the nature of war.  By protecting others, you save yourself."

The problem I have with picks is say Im busy fighting 2 or 3 and another yahoo comes in and picks me while Im busy. I feel the that the 3rd, 4th, or 5th guy in should have the class/honor to stay out of a fight that is already a gang fest. At this point yes I think a "pick" is as bad as a HO.

Saying that your not going to find very many who won't jump in in that situation, but that just speaks of the game play we enjoy these days.

I actually prefer it when people try to gang/pick me, though I've been told that I'm special  ;)  1v1's are boring, 10v1's is where the real fun is at!  :devil

If you were truly friendly in your PM, then they were probably from the shallow end of the gene pool.  There are tons of awesome folks here.  Shake off the rude folks and invest your time in the great ones! :aok

Why would you think a good player would take a salute over something as mind numbingly simple as a pick as anything other than an insult?
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
