Alpha screenshot - CV Hangar
« on: February 11, 2015, 09:26:21 AM »
Hey!

Just noticed this - been out a week but I don't often come in through the main page.   Still, usually somebody would see this before me and point it out.

Looking good, much nicer than current CV hangar, don't you think?   There's something more satisfying about the lower viewing angle and more profile-like view of the aircraft, I think.  And the lighting is much more dramatic.   Compared to the current hangar view:

Very nice improvement, HTC.   Notice some change to the clipboard interface as well.    Thank you for the screenshot!

Love it, I like the look of warning "Beware of Propellers", the hatch-door and the steps onto the catwalk, and the sunset or sunrise reflection on the water is great.

Nice to see the TBM updated.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

The new TBM carries the correct loadout of eight rockets as well.

TBM still needs a formation. At this point it still only carriers as many ords as a F4U-1D, but still less if you count the 50Cals. A formation for TBM's would be a nice alternative to rolling Jabo from a CV attack, it'll also make them more effective as Torpedo Bombers.

TBM do not need a formation. It will only be used as extra bomb carts with no intention of bringing them back. Unlike heavy bombers the gunners of tje TBM do not overlap as much and its only real means of defense is maneuvering.

What the TBM brings to the table is the level bomb sight that in AH world is the equivalent to laser guided munitions. They can put ords on target with much higher precision and less riak from acks than the F4U. It can also do some crazy rocket stunts that no other plane can do (totally a game feature though).

And yet you see that feature rarely used.
Because in the end it's much less efficient than upping a heavy F4U-1D jabo. The TBM has to climb to alt first, then settle it's speed and calibrate. The F4U-1D can put the about the same bang on it's target much faster (and has much more combat value after the drop),
And the TBM's increased precision isn't worth that much more considering it's small payload. Under most circumstances, not much precision needed to kill a hangar or a few town buildings in the first place.

It's not that no other plane can do this, it's just that they can never look as cool doing it:

I do like the new art work, but with the "old/current" viewing angle you can see the options for your load out a lot easier.

The new art work is great.   :aok

Of course, no precision is needed when they fly into the target. Any second of flying after ordnance release is a waste of time - you should ride the bombs into the target "Dr. Strangelove" style, or continue to strafe stuff until killed by acks.

Few fly the TBM because most have never heard of it and don't even know what it is. True, F4U is a better bomb truck with added value, but the TBM is not so bad. Not all planes are alike or should be. This is not an mmorpg that needs its classes balanced.
I hardly fly it because the SBD is even cooler.

It's not that no other plane can do this, it's just that they can never look as cool doing it:

That was cool :)
But not what I was referring to. Think what is the thing that only the TBM can do with rockets.

People dont use it becuase theres no formation so you might as well just up a F4u1D or F6F which hold as much ords as a TBM and can go to fighter mode after dropping the CV level bombers need a formation.

Do you use the Norden to aim them against ground targets?
