There is only 1 P39 that ever survived my Spit8 once I spotted it, and I believe it was only BAIT for the 2 K4's that came in out of the sun when I dove in on it. P39's are only good for.. well.. I guess they taxi alright with that tricycle gear.  Pilots called them flying coffins for a reason !

I've killed a great many spitfires probably makes half my p39 kills actually  :devil.

No offence but yes the Spit 8 is a bit easier on the virtual tyro. Winning for the sake of winning with the absolute best aeroplane isn't always the point though. That being said maybe two tours ago I believe I managed something like a 4-1 KD in the 39Q. It cant be that bad. I don't recall the Russian pilots calling it a flyin coffin. They seemed to have had good regards for it. If you stack all the Russian 39 aces in with the Allied pilots a lot of them would be in the top 20!

No no I know the difference between an ugly plane and a real beauty.

The P39 looks like its designer had a stroke while drawing a sketch.

Why wrong here.  The P-39 was an outside the envelope shot at making a low drag plane.  If we had the original concept drawing you would see what the designer was trying to do.  Much of the P-39s problem was trying to fix problems that may not have been foreseen or thought through in the concept.

I would guess with the modern, strong, lighter  materials we have today, the P-39 might have been more successful.

Major problem's with the p39 ,is lack of roll to the right under 94mph. Small fuel load and its power to weight ratio. And of course the super charger.

With all these faults i still love the plane, but it is no real wonder so many in real life hated its guts.

I would LOVE to have the 39D-2 would get more horse power for the same D model load out. "altho im not sure if engine weighed more so it might negate the added 200H.P."

:edit: i guess im  wrong, like most aces high planes,our 39-D is a mutt. A mix of the d-1 & d-2. :|
 how sad.

For what its worth.  :salute

It was a mail carrier in the late war on the US side simply because there were better fighters available.  The Russkies used them because they were readily available.

I still say the P-39 was the chevy corvair of ww2 war planes. A good idea that just never got all the bugs worked out.

Still a neat plane and super fun plane in a base defense.  If they shot you down they don't get crap for it but if you shot them down you load up on perks.

I thought it was used as a mail carrier because it was easy to roll down the windows to put the letters into mailboxes.  :devil

A formation of A10's flew by my house today. Here's a pic I snapped during the flight.
