Black Hurricane

Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this skin.

While based in Egypt in 1941, 30 Squadron's black-painted Hurricanes were tasked with defending the important British base of Alexandria from night attack.

Was there any particular reason they were painted black, or was it just "a thing" they did?

Sweet!

I got black hurricanes after me!  :noid
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Pretty sure it was because they were used as night fighters for a time...

Do we have the 85 squadron black Hurricane I with the red spinner and cowl markings that Ian Gleed flew?

That one has a bit more "color" for lack of a better word.   I imagine we must have the well known black Hurri IIc of F/O Kuttelewascher of 85 squadron too?

Not since the update of the old version of the Hurri I. It was a 87 squadron aircraft Gleed flew for both units if I recall correctly.
I think it was painted all black in AHII but the rudder was actually not in real life.

I was trying to find a photo of the same aircraft with the camo & red spinner I always thought that was more interesting just never have found one of it yet.

There was a restored Hurri flying in that scheme for a bit which I thought looked great.

The Kuttlewascher Hurri IIc scheme is one of the nicest paint jobs on a Hurri I've seen.

Thanks guys.

The only other black Hurri in the game is an 87 Squadron Mk IIC I did, code LK-A. I vaguely recall that I picked that one because when the new Hurris were originally released into the game the all-black version of the Kuttelewascher scheme was reserved by another skinner. Whoever it was has never done that skin. I'll probably not skin another all-black Hurri as I'd just be repeating myself. However I might skin the green, grey and black Kuttelewascher scheme at some point.

(Image removed from quote.)

It does look great just not correct.
Rudder was not black & the nose art was left on a square of original camo paint after it was painted black.

Also just found a not very good photo of the red spinner version with the camo paint.

Better quality photo of the above.

There's an old book from the wartime days by an Author whose name escapes me at the moment, but he tells the 'story' of that black Hurricane.  It, according to the author had amazing performance and he makes note of the individual injector exhausts which was not the norm for an early Hurricane.  The premise was the Squadron CO had it souped up and it was faster and more agile than any other fighter in the sky.

A good fish story, but fun nonetheless :)
