Fun in the DA

Last night the MA action was a little slow, so I put out an invite on 200 for people to do a "canyon fight" in the DA.  This is the first time I've ever initiated one, and I was happy I did.  We started with 3 or 4 but ultimately had about 8-10 guys fighting in there.  That was a blast!

It was non-stop action and fun that made about 3 hours go by before I even noticed the time.  I think I had more good fights, hearty laughter and great camaraderie in those 3 hours than I do in a typical month of flying the MA.  I'll definitely be doing that again!

A snappy salute to everyone who showed up and participated and thanks for the laughs and fun flying.  It's nice to be able have "fights" while talking and joking with the players you are shooting at -- even giving check-sixes to guys before shooting them or telling the guy in the Spit I "stop, those 303's tickle!"  :). 

No egos, no 200 taunting, no chest-beating and no whining - just a good group of guys all focused on having fun.  I definitely walked away with some new friends.  This game needs more of that, and I'll do my best to initiate that more.

Oh, as a funny aside: There was even one player who joined us that is a dedicated, self-proclaimed "bomber guy" who wanted to try his hand at fighter furballing.  After a while he said he was having loads of fun (even while getting shot down) and was now motivated to learn more fighter ACM.  He even apologized to us "fighter guys" for thinking so little of us (and saying so on the forums) in the past.  Essentially he became a "convert" as a result!  Ha!  I thought that was pretty cool.

You found the secret :).  Interestingly enough the people I've gotten to know best over the years are the ones I've fought the most often to begin with.  Turns out that testing yourself against someone else, no one really dies, not taking it seriously, shared interest actually means something :aok

I wish I would have stayed logged on. I would have loved to join. I always have a great time in the DA even though I just die for the most part. It's very refreshing to do that kind of stuff every now and then.

Hell froze over that day it must have.I was the "bomber guy." I had a blast in the DA. It was my first stab at it and I'm hooked. Man was i lucky to fly and fight with you guys. Just amazed at how talented and disciplined you guys are in fighters. It truely is art. Great group of guys that night/morning. I think I stayed up til 530am with yall. I look forward to many more visits to the DA and opening up my game play more often to fighters.  :salute

time difference, I am assuming....


lot of good fun to be had in those DA canyon fights!

Changeup used to run these DA canyon fight events regularly,  not so long ago....... and the time does go by pretty fast when everyone is having fun......

Aye....not so much time difference as this would have been during my usual log in time... it seems I just missed out...and for the last two days I have chased red dars and gv'd .... total of thirty minutes. I used to just wait it out till things picked up and could have caught this....but just can't be bothered anymore.... I best check the DA before I enter again .....

I stopped looking as when i get to log in there is usually only 30-40 in the main and everywhere else is dust.

Yeah, I'm a west-coast (US) night owl, so I frequently see Tongs on.  In fact, if I see that flash of red and white upping from a capped field to fight you for every inch of air-space, I can usually tell Tongs is on.

I'll be sure to look for you next time we get one of these going, Tongs.

Crabby was holding his "Kill Crabby" crab boil the same way for awhile.

I used to fly bait for him in a Ki 43 against overwhelming numbers of boiled crab fans down in those canyons. Eventually HOing and climbing above the canyon rim would set in with grim determination and ruin it towards the end of each evening. Sort of defeated the "fun" reason to play in that constrained space. You can always go to the MA to be Hoed by the dead serious fun impaired EGO noids.

I hope you guys can keep a lid on it longer than we did. Once the HOing starts, the canyon is a fish barrel for those not following the rules.

Saw you flying a zero around tonight too!  If that DA session opened you up to exploring new ways to enjoy the game, then that's awesome.  I hope the enthusiasm lasts and you stick with it.  Just remember it takes time, practice and a willingness to fail.  Try to focus as much on your losses as your wins, as those are learning opportunities. Film your sorties and watch what the other guy did to beat you.  The guys who are willing to fail in order to learn are usually the ones who learn fastest.

Enjoy your forward firing guns! :)

you hit that 1 on the nose ryno.  the only difference is in the MA now days its  not 1v1 its more like 10 -15 vs 10- 15 or more thats the 10 pm to 4 am cst time zone im in. in a month or so  i will get trackir hoping it will help

Well our DA "canyon fight" session was mostly 3v3 or 4v4 engagements (or started that way), and then those odds flip as guys go down.  But I get your point about the importance of SA (and track IR should help once you climb that learning curve).

I have noticed that you are less inclined to fly below multiple cons and try to climb under fight than you were earlier on.  Realizing how much E you need to enter with and maintain during a fight in certain aircraft against multiple cons is part of that learning process as well.
