M4 perked?
« on: March 09, 2015, 05:51:19 AM »
I started using the M4 as my tank of choice after reading one of Lusche's post.  My question is, what feature or features of the M4 makes it perked?

This is not a question on if it should be perked or not.

When you look at tanks, you will see that (unlike) the threshold for perking is very low. Far more tanks are perked, and perk cost begins at rather low levels.
This was made because tank usage is somewhat more difficult to control, as technical performance advantages (most notably gun/armor) have a far bigger impact than those in planes due to the different natures of air and ground combat.
Back in the day, the M4(76) was extremely popular when unperked, and soon after that a small perk price was tagged upon it as well as the T-34/85.

That being said...

The M4(76) offers a very good allround package for GV combat. A capable and fast gun with clear optics and a very high magnification (x5) (same magnification as the highly perked Tiger or Panther.)

Edit: a small comparison I made a few years ago:

As always Lusche, you amaze me with your knowledge, and your detail studies.  This table is well worth printing out.
I need to study the information you provided to have a better grasp on tank ratings.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply.

This table is well worth printing out.

I think it's not, because too many 'newer' tanks / tank destroyers are missing from it:

M18
Tiger II
Jagdpanzer 38(t) "Hetzer"
Jagdpanzer IV
Jagdpanther

I wish HTC would take the same approach to bombers as they do gv’s concerning perk points.  Meaning: put a small perk cost (1-3) on the more meaningful bombers in AH (Lancs, B24’s, B17’s, B26’s, etc).  It is very easy to earn perk points with bombers yet there are so little to spend points on.
I think it makes perfect sense to have the tanks that are a “grade up” from the usual M4/75mm, Panzer IV H, and T34/76.  The term “grade up” can be anything from armor, speed, main gun, or all three.  Keep in mind that Panzer IV H has a superior gun vs the m4/76mm in both AP and HE, and superior AP vs the T34/85mm.
HTC has the perk point system about right for gv’s.

Then perk all the 10 eny and less fighters too. Im tired of the sky being filled with them. B-Z- and run. Most of all with a 5 on 1 advantage. Maybe perking a wider range of fighters will result in a more balanced air war.

Maybe perking a wider range of fighters will result in a more balanced air war.

It won't.  It will just increase perk farming in the other arenas so the perks can be spent in the LW arena.

This is why I agree with perks being earned in other arena's should stay in those arena's. :)

I have tried to use the M4 and it was an okay tank but I would jump over the M4 for any German war wagon we have. Since reading all the great info posted by Lusche I will give the M4 another try. :aok

There's something about the M4 that I just like more than all the other German tanks...

The gunsight satisfies me, along with its speed. It can put in work too, if you're good enough.

But that's just me as a mediocre tank driver.
