Av8b
« on: March 16, 2015, 06:04:01 PM »
Just got Domarks AV8b harrier assault (SVGA version) working on Dosbox this time with full HOTAS using CH gear. Graphics are absolutely awful but I do like the flight model and the fun of landing VTOL on a CV. I played it through to the end in years gone by and may have a rerun with the fun of organising the ground assaults supported by the Harrier.

This a classic Dos game IMHO. I used to have a boot disk just to configure the PC (a 486) to run it! - Now easy to run through Dosbox although it did take an evening to work out how to set the game up with the HOTAS fully working. I use the pro throttle mini-stick for the nozzle angle changes.

My PC is a windows 7 64 bit with intel i5 processor - very much OTT for DOS games now  :)

Respectable Youtube of it as below

Someone left their hairdryer running.  ;)
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I thought that game was pretty good.  Not as good overall as Chuck Yeager's Air Combat because of CYAC's after-mission playback features but still very fun especially playing with the VTOL stuff.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Well I just had a go on CYAC (took a few minutes to put into my DOSBox folders). Graphics terrible again, worse than AV8b but simple enough to set up. So that is still around as well if people want to try it! At least you get to see how far we have come on graphics LOL
