Was hired by a survey company this past December and I make more flying a 206, then most of the most senior regional airline first officers. I'm salaried in the mid 30's currently, but could possibly be in the 40's soon as I am moving up in aircraft; and then we get paid per diem on top of that...

I decided to skip the whole CFI route, though eventually I want to get it and I'm currently sitting at 557hrs. I was hired at ~425.

you guys do realize that sometimes you take a job because you love it or like it?  not about the money but the satisfaction of what you do. I make anywhere between 54 to 80k a year depending on ot working at a steel mill.  I dont specially like my job but I dont really hate it.  last year my ot was about 24k, that is more than what most people make flying.  but I am pretty sure they get more satisfaction than I do.  me I would rather make the extra money.

I consider myself lucky, i make more than the average worker make while i dont really hate my job.  not specially like it either, but it is a trade off I am happy to make.

One of my pilots at work is looking at a 60 day on 60 day off OCONUS job which pays about $22k a month...when you are on the 60 day off part you get paid nothing.

That's an issue that's been building for many years.  Most of the majors have very capable auto-pilots with auto-throttles and company rules that insist that they be engaged very soon after takeoff and not disengaged until just before landing or perhaps not at all.  That leaves very little time for actual hand flying which can become a problem for guys needing to do annual or six month checks.

Actually most check rides conducted in a level D Sim are very "line oriented" so the check is conducted with full use of the Flight management system and full use of the automation. At the time of my retirement, precious few airlines were starting to realize it was time to reinforce "basic operating skills" (hand flying).
