Medieval 2 Total War is my favorite of the TW iterations thus far. I have not tried the Stainless Steel mod but am interested in getting it at some point. I'm currently playing a campaign in vanilla version using large armies of Longbow, Feudal Knights, and Dismounted English Knights. With Spain, I love their Tercio Pikemen. Venice have excellent heavy infantry and archers great for up-close brawling. The wide diverse variety of units in this game is the part I love the most. I hope that if Creative Assembly re-does the medieval time period, they stick to using these wide variety of units.

I've played MTW2, Rome 2 Total War, and Napoleon Total War.

In Rome 2's current state with the patches/updates, I find it a very fun game to play. I love playing as Macedon and steam-rolling enemies with giant walls of pikes.

 :aok

You'll absolutely love SS then. Don't wait though, I'd finish the campaign you're on if it's that compelling, but not start another until you have SS. I have done a lot of "little modding" for the Teutonic Order, you can have my files if that is a faction you'd like to play with (yes you can play TO, late campaign for 400 turns). The look of units in SS, you'll never want to go back. My files didn't do much other than add a lot of units; things like Gotland Footmen to their arsenal.

Oh wait, if you're only playing M2TW, maybe you haven't played Kingdoms? For TO you'll have to have Kingdoms. Did you get Kingdoms with the purchase?
They're casting their bait over there, see?

When you start with SS 6.4 (I believe is the last) you will be forced to choose a submod. I forget its name, but there is one that says: "most players choose this one" I believe it's a balanced submod between aggressive AI and backstabbing by other factions. I'd start there.

There are a few other submods there; one is rather complex; it combines a supply to movement adaptation to the game and I'd not recommend you go into that one to begin.

Choosing the submod is IMPORTANT, all of your subsequent campaigns will play under that set of rules for the AI.

To change that, reinstall (no uninstall necessary) and choose different submod.

Also, I had to go through the initial SS 6.4 installation steps 2-3 times (for whatever) reason to get the game to load. So if you need to walk through all the steps again; the mod works.

* search for rotbaron in their forum, you'll find/see my learning curve with SS 6.4. Maybe that will help if you get stuck.

I still play "Rome Total War" In fact Ive been playing it for the last few weeks. This time as the Seleucid Empire. This game is what? near 10 years old now. And I still find myself playing it at least once a year.
And I always find myself playing it a slighty different way each time
