Empire is the best of the bunch.  Napollean, which came after Empire as a totally separate game, wouldn't even rate as an addon for Empire since the map is only europe.  The only thing Empire was missing was a multiplayer campaign.

Question about Empire.

Is it an entirely new game or is it written on the code of Rome and Shogun?

The reason I ask is that Napoleon was just Rome but with new characters. As in I would select Light infantry and they would sometimes say "Spears ready" making it obvious that no original thought had gone into it. Is it the same in Empire?

I don't want to pay money for a game that is inferior to Napoleon and is basically Rome but with new art and no new code.

Imo, actually Medieval 2 was the best; to get the most out of that game though you want mods (aka modified files by players that have created campaigns).

The best mod, imo, is Stainless Steel, incorporate it into your campaigns...SS has only a few bugs too. However the graphics are old, but there are programs (I don't recall atm names) that can enhance the graphics to more 'of the day looking games.

They're casting their bait over there, see?

Original Rome Total War with the total realism(RTR) or extended realism(EXRM) mods is best IMO.

Go to http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php and find all sorts of cool mods for every version of Total War.

Its a new game, I believe Empire was the first release of the newer game engine.

I did like the LOTR mod for M2TW.  Elvish armies firing thousands of arrows at those huge troll things....

Ok, just as I said, I know Napoleon came after Empire and in Napoleon they still said the likes of "Spears Ready". Really kills the immersion. Wondering if something similar happens in Empire?

There is talk of Medieval 3; recently.

But there has been talk of that for a long time now; we'll see.

Hmmm, interesting.  Picking up the Grand Master Collection would save me $120.

Guess I have to get up early tomorrow and get that taken cared off. :)

I have Napoleon Total War and I've never heard of that problem occurring on my game. Are you on the latest updates of that game?

Medieval 2 Total War is my favorite of the TW iterations thus far. I have not tried the Stainless Steel mod but am interested in getting it at some point. I'm currently playing a campaign in vanilla version using large armies of Longbow, Feudal Knights, and Dismounted English Knights. With Spain, I love their Tercio Pikemen. Venice have excellent heavy infantry and archers great for up-close brawling. The wide diverse variety of units in this game is the part I love the most. I hope that if Creative Assembly re-does the medieval time period, they stick to using these wide variety of units.

I've played MTW2, Rome 2 Total War, and Napoleon Total War.

In Rome 2's current state with the patches/updates, I find it a very fun game to play. I love playing as Macedon and steam-rolling enemies with giant walls of pikes.
