I think that both are jerks, but at least the Sith don't try to hide their motives, unlike the Jedi. The Jedi thought that they killed off all but a few Sith lords in the Old Republic, which led to them getting their butts kicked in the ransacking of Coruscant and forward. Then the Sith got all greedy and overconfident that they start killing off one another(as if Darth Bane's Rule of Two wasn't enough trouble.) Then the Seventh Battle of Rusaan was the game changer up until the Clone Wars, where Anakin goes dark, Sidious orders the green light on the Jedi, and the Republic dies and becomes the Empire.
Then Galen Marek(aka Starkiller, the apprentice, whatever) becomes Vaders new henchmen, only to be backstabbed and left for dead, then told to start a rebellion against the Empire, which, depending on whether you face Vader or Sidious, gives the outcome of that choice.
Finally, Luke(and Leia). They destroy the one thing they thought was unbeatable in the Empire's arsenal with the help of an astromech who pretty much been through heck and high water. Then Obi and Yoda help Luke become a Jedi, and Leia falls for Han. Luke goes to face Vader one last time on D.S.2 until Sidious toasts Luke to where Vader 's pride was hit home, and decides to throw Sidious down a shaft, therefore redeeming himself as Anakin again just before dying in front of his son's face. D.S.2 blows up, and the rebellion again scores a major victory.
Luke realizes that he needs to start up a New Jedi Order from scratch. So he goes and builds a Praxeum on Yavin 4, and recruits people to where they're ready to take on the Empire. Luke falls for Mara Jade, and marries her. He then must've thought that it's cool for Jedi to have spouses, so he passed the word around(which was actually pretty cool for Luke imo, makes his somewhat different from the rest imo.)
As for the Yuuzhan Vong War and the Legacy era after, I'll let you figure it out, here's the link:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Yuuzhan_Vong_WarMy point is that both the Jedi and Sith are flawed, but the Jedi are too ignorant to see it, and the Sith are too overconfident to realize it. I'm done now *whew*, gonna go get some water now.
