Where Are The Scenarios?

MrLars, We also ran a large scale multi-frame scenario in April & May call "Hostile Shores", sorry you missed it. We spent the whole summer organizing the current "Tour of Duty" scenarios that run every Friday night. We are currently planning another large scenario to be run in early December that will recreate the "Big Week" bombing campaign of Feb. 1944.

I agree with you that we don't run enough scenarios for the amount of people we have on the CM team. I'm not going to make excuses or try to give reasons why we haven't held more large scenarios. The way the CM team is organized right now, it is just too inefficient. Pyro and I had a talk recently about the state of the CM team and the state of events, and we agree that there has to be some fundamental changes. What these changes are, I don't know. It's Pyro's game, so I'll find out when he tells me. But I'm guessing that the CM team will not be the exclusive organizers of events in the future.

On a personal level, speaking only for myself, I promised Pyro a year's time as head CM, and my "tour" is up in January. I indicated to him that I never was looking to be a dynasty, so I'll most likely be back to being a just a regular joe AH player by mid-winter. In the 10 months that I've been head CM, I'm lucky to get one night a week to fly AH, the rest of my AH time is spent running the CM team. I took on the job to repay my debt to the flight sim community for those who have created and hosted scenario for me as a player in years past. I wanted to give back to the community what others gave to me when I was in Warbirds back in the late 90's. But a year is enough time for busting my arse. It's time for others, especially guys like ANrky, to step up and put their time where their mouth is and continue to create and run special events.

But in the meantime, I've got work to do. We've got a large scenario coming up, we have three terrains ready for HTC to "bless", we've got another six in the oven, plus another special one for the scenario...the TOD needs some attention...etc.

I just joined the CM team.

So far I have worked at writing TOD's.  I have written 3 up and only ONE has the proper aircraft to fly it "accurately".

Also, the new terrain editor is needed to get the maps up to date.  As banana mentioned there are 3 on the table that HTC needs to give the "ok" on.

There are so many new members to the CM Group that it will take some time to TRAIN everybody and not have a FUBAR'd event.

This community demands accuracy and realism....when I write a TOD that is my mindset.  You can easily sub aircraft...but then it becomes a "quake" event that frustrates the majority of the community.

Bottom line is that we are working hard to write up and run events....those who want to critisize are welcome to do so.

Hey, I've offered to help out here several times.  If you're not going to accept my help, then you can stop your 'if you're not going to help, then shut up whines'.

Of course, if you're saying that if I don't like it then make a scenario on my own--I can say for sure that that project is something that is beyond my ability, and I'm sure you know that.

Thanks for the info...

Large scale scenarios are what I was looking for info wise...although I'm sure that TOD's are fun, nothing can match the immersion that a large scale scenario gives. Weekley events just don't do it for some  :D

While nothing I've seen yet could replace large-scale scenarios, with their private newsgroups (excuse me 'message boards'), the discussion, the planning, the whole scale of it all, the flames, the chance to fly as a team with people you're not used to flying with (even people you've usually flown against), etc....

The TODs are great!  They're everything that the AW auto-scenarios should have been, and much, much more.  As far as immersion goes, in some ways I think they might even be better than large scale scenarios.

Instead of boosting the CM's, maybe we should boost the aircraft makers.  <g>  Then the CMs will have more to work with.

Okay, okay... my ploy to get early-war planes and thus a variety of scenarios going.  I'll stoop to any level to get Wildcats and Warhawks in here.

Six or even just four mid war AC would do wonders for the events we write and design. A Japanese, Russian and German bomber, plus a night fighter would open up a world of new TOD's.  :)

Not to mention early war AC which I miss so very much!

A Euro time TOD is going to start soon on Saturday.  ;)
