I think of how sluggish this AC would be in a dogfight = meat on the table.
During late 1943 the Germans were on air defense of the Reich defending against B-17's and B-24s. Problem was the allies best long range fighter was the P-47 with a single drop tank, the spitfire had a much shorter range, neither had the range to escort the bombers to the targets and back. Second Raid on Schweinfurt shows a good example of the BR 21 rockets being used on a large scale against unescorted bombers. The luftwaffe also adopted dropping 250kg bombs with delay fuses in formations of bombers. The germans started putting heavy weapons on the 110G and 410 because they felt a need for larger weapons against the bombers, however with the arrival of the P-51B everything changed. Fw-190s were being escorted by Me-109s since the 190s couldn't defend themselves since they were upgunned.
Reminds me of one of the first FSO's I flew, I had to fly the A8, think I downed 8 B-17s in one pass from a head on attack, then pretty much got swatted off by 51s and 47s, I couldn't even catch the tail end of the bombers because the fighters were all over the place and the 190 was sluggish as it is at 25k with 30mm options.
