Cut out Chann 200
« on: April 23, 2015, 12:28:01 PM »
:airplane: I have never tuned to chann 200 in the 6 years I have played this game! I heard about almost from the start from other players that I was learning the game from and decided that I did not want any part of it.
I hear players bemoaning the "trash" talk on 200 almost daily now and I am just wondering if it wouldn't benefit the game as a whole to cut out chann 200! Is there some purpose for it that I don't know about?
If a person was so intent on saying something to someone in another country, they could always PM them, that way it would save everyone else listening to their rant or compliant!
Blue Skies and wind at my back and wish that for all!!!

I disagree - you and everyone else has a choice, and hopefully applies some self-discipline.

If you are new to the game, channel 200 won't affect your initial view on AH, because you don't even know about it.  :old:

I like some of the talk on 200...The political talks get a lot of .report's out of me...not so much as it's the rule(which it is) but most have no clue what they are talking about.

Channel 200 has to be tuned in to be able to see anything. It is but one of 100 such channels (200-299) and if it is blocked by HTC for whatever reason, any one of the others will take its place. There is definitely a use for cross-country communications, but sadly a few players lack the self control to use it properly.

Like you Earl I never tune to 200.  I did have a fellow rook call out to me on vox that the guy I shot down was slamming me on 200 for not responding to his rant on 200.  I bet that guy twice you might say. :rofl

HTC must see it as a money maker or surely they would have dumped 200 a long time ago.

I'm guessing HTC likes channel 200 because it has the potential to help build a sense of community by allowing players from all the chess pieces to watermelon chat and hopefully be one more thing to keep them coming back.  It's a double edged sword though because most of the time it's just a fuss session or guys talking smack to each other, which turns most off.

I almost always have it tuned, but I do have a "silence" tab that I'll click if I'm getting tired of reading the drivel that sometimes is spewed.  I'd rather have the option and not use it than not have the option at all.

Don't like, don't tune.

The issues with channel 200 are derived for a small number of players. Squelch those and 200 becomes a great place to meet players on the other teams. Many friendship are made over 200 through the years.

Part of training, teach the newbies how to squelch.

I also think there should be a bigger presence of MODs in the arena with a bigger stick. Too often the political crap goes on too long before someone steps in. If a MOD is there to mute people right off sooner or later they will start to get the message that it will not be tolerated. The same goes for the bullying. It's pretty easy to see it happening when it does. If a MOD is on the ball and  mutes them right off those getting bullied don't log off and/or rage quit. I don't know how many MODs there are but I don't think there are enough. I can see some friendly banter going back and forth, but some of the stuff you see these days goes way over board.

I know HTC want to "let the people play", but there have to be some limits or your just letting it all turn into a cess pool.
