Amiga 2000

I still have my old Amiga 2000. No idea if it even still works.  Does anyone know if a regular monitor can be hooked up to it now? Or can the old TV adapter be made to work with todays TVs?

Im thinking of firing it up again for old times sake

If it has a vga connector (it should) then of course you can hook up a monitor.

I have an old amiga too.  Not sure about the connection.  There are amiga sources out there I would bet.  Do a google.  My favorite part of the system was the cassette tape drive used for loading programs.  I think I found a place on line to order the drive belts a few years back.

I don't think the Amiga ever came with a cassette tape drive for loading programs. From the very first A1000, they used 3.5" floppy disks. The video output should be a 23-pin DSub connection.

As far as hooking up to modern monitors, this Google Search should be helpful.

I remember at the time you needed either a special monitor or have the TV adapter as standard IBM/IBM clone monitors wouldnt work with it (going back a ways eh?)

I had both at one point as I started by using it with a TV, then got myself a commodore monitor which I no longer have.

If it wont work with todays TV's I can probably scrounge up another old TV as I come across customers all the time asking me if I want them. LOL

They did.  I still have it.

Even the Amiga500 had a 3,5" built-in. I don't recall ever using or even seeing anyone use tape drives with Amigas but of course anything is possible.

Damn shame about the Amiga.
Great machine that was able to do or with the right addons made to be able to do things well before they became mainstream on other machines.

Came stock with stereo sound when PCs were still using the PC speakers (beep beep)
4096 colors No video card needed when PCs were still largly  black and white stick figures or even when the PCs had better graphics and sound they still largely looked and sounded primitive when compared to Amiga

Sorry, but that's a tape backup drive. It's not for loading software that you buy at the store, it's for backing up your data. I even remember playing around with a utility that let you use a VHS recorder and tape as a backup device.

Could it be that people confuse the Commodore Datassette with Amiga? After all, they were made by the same company.

Correct, the poster is most likely confusing the Commodore 64 system.

Dred the reason the Amiga died was the CEO of Commodore  deliberately sabotaged Amiga development. He heavily favoured PC's. When they folded documents emerged showing he pushed development of products they knew would fail like the 600 and CD32. Some CUG members apparently burned an effigy of him outside the HQ.

The fact it was very poorly advertised didnt help. Most common people had no idea what an Amiga was or what it could do. Including several things that didnt appear in PCs till years later that they touted as "new"

Though I know several TV stations used it as I remember occasionally seeing on the TV the telltale sign of an amiga program crash


At which point most of us old users remember often giving it what we used to call "the Vulcan Death pinch" to reboot
