Low numbers
« on: May 04, 2015, 11:43:16 AM »
Yes, I miss the days of 600 targets in the main arena.  Thinking about this, I've figured out the problem.  The problem is Apple!! You can't play aces high on an iPad.  You can't play it on a mac book. The market share of these products has grown tremendously since 2006.  I have 2 friends that would play, but since they have macs, they can't.  They aren't going to buy a new computer to play aces high. Just a thought, but maybe the new update could be Mac friendly.  I'd bet numbers could go up 25 percent.

I think there is a way to put a windows OS on a mac, I've never done it though.

I seem to remember a post a few years ago that mentions playing AH on a mac using this method.

Most people who buy Mac Books don't intend on playing any sort of games outside of their web browser in the first place....

Early 90's I had a friend who was a certified Mac tech. One day at his home I asked him how do you work on the Mac when there are no visible screws to open the case. He pulls out a screwdriver that is about 22 inches long. Tells me to turn his MacShell\monitor up side down and stick the screw driver all the way to the hilt in the 4 holes.

When I opened the shell, very little inside was upgradeable or even expandable.

He got paid twice as much as a PC tech who had to be able to replace everything in a PC to do his job, know the vicisitudes of Windows, while the PC tech's company usually looked at him as an over priced janitor.

If Apple had wanted anything Windows defiling their con game, they would have let Billy Boy kiss their tusshy a long time ago. Very special people use Mac's. Or so they tell the rest of us they are.

Again with the Mac Hate.

The thing that was great about Macs was that since they locked down the hardware, (even if not the best,) the software worked. The PC was always an unstable ball of tedium and it seemed like you had to know all kinds of fast obsoleting trivia to make it work.

Nowadays I don't know, my windows 7 seems pretty stable.

If you do want to use a mac you just run windows on it from a partition. On a newer mac it probably is better than this Vista box I have now.

You could not play Aces High on any iPad, even if we did a port. The CPU's are too slow, and none of the iPads prior to the Air 2 have enough system RAM.  There are more issues, but those kill the deal right off the bat.

The Mac books are in a similar situation.  The CPU's are too slow (Intel M series processors at 1.x Ghz).  The Intel GPU could handle it, except you could not run at the native resolution of the monitor as there are too many pixels for the GPU to keep up.

The next generation of the game is even more demanding on the video hardware.  There is just no way for it to run on iPads or Mac books.

But perhaps you could do what X-Plane did, and make a lite version for iPads...?  If nothing else, it might work as a useful introduction to the iPad generation.

I'm sure it would be easy enough to write the code, probably could spin it out in a few hours....

You can install/run Windows on a Mac, you just need a seperate partition. AH should run fine its pretty lightweight.

Rather see Linux-friendly since I am dumping Windows once and for all.

Some of my happiest days was when I had an iMac.  Game played greatly.
