I got a letter from Miss Beverly Jean Haynes today...
« on: May 11, 2015, 06:25:49 PM »
My 1916 made Colt 1911 pistol was 1 out of a 1000 shipment (total of 4214 pistols made in the year 1916.)
She's 95% or better, no?

A very rare pistol. Not as rare as a Navy Colt in the same era, but this one will stay in the family. I spent many hours chatting about the Korean Conflict with my best friend's Father who was at the retreat of Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. Hisfather owned this pistol (Purchased post-war, in 1954) and it was passed down to my best friend when his Dad died. My friend moved to Australia last fall and could not take the pistol with him. I offered him $1800 and he agreed only because I had a close relationship with his family since 1979.

Pic of official Colt letter and a few others I took.

That is a beautiful weapon.
Flight Leader: "Bogeys at 2 o'clock!"
Wingman: "Roger, It's 1:30 now, what do I do 'til then?"

Thank you fellow 1911 Aficionados. :)

An acquaintance paid $14,000 for a similar year/Serial-conditioned pistol at Rock Island Auction last summer.   Wow...guess he really wanted it!
It *was* stamped with Strong's S (instead of Hosmer's H) so that made it that much more rarer.
