The purpose of punishment is to punish those responsible for a crime.  His wishes are completely aside. 

FWIW, I think he earns what he has sewn.  The Court found him Guilty and sentenced him to death.  One appeal and if he is still Guilty, carry it out swiftly and according to our law.  Torturing or prolonging his agony to "punish" him serves no purpose other than to truly make him a martyr.

He's going to end up doing his time, prior to getting the needle, at Super Max Federal prison In CO. . I hope he gets a good look at the Rocky mountains on his way in cause its the last time he'll ever see the beauty of nature in this life. Basically he'll be living alone in a closet for 23 hours a day. For one hour he'll be released in a cage to walk in circles and mutter to himself. And thats it. Other then the occasional letter or maybe a phone call he'll get to spend whats left of his life in a closet. No TV. No computers. Nothing. Maybe it will give him time to reflect on exactly why he placed a bomb next to a little boy and blew him up.

By the end he'll be glad the needle is coming.
