Douglas TBD Devastator

Currently being subbed in an FSO (B5N on both sides). Sounds like a need .... for events.  ;)

Alternate history where Nakajima entered the B5N for consideration as the US Navy's next torpedo bomber?  Probably superior to the TBD....

Well, the B5N does have a higher top speed (by something close to 30mph)...then again, the TBD has a cowl mounted gun and the B5N has nothing pointing forward. Other than that; they both stack up pretty much equal IMHO

+1 bring on the TBD!!
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

I've been for and against the TBD over the years; we had many plane sets that require more attention then something that could be nothing more then a "Hanger queen" unless its a scenario, but honestly we need to start having these "hanger queens" because frankly it has to fill the gaps left in the plane sets.

I still honestly want to see some other plane sets added; D.520 for example, Beaufighter - planes that would serve a purpose in scenarios and in game. TBD is important yes; however other considerations like more Japanese aircraft to fill out its plane sets would be nice.

I have read, that pilots didn't like the TBD very much.  I'm still pushing for the Japanese Judy. Just my thoughts.

My point, actually, is if it takes a substitute to run an event then the missing plane should hop up a rung or twelve since a need was just proven.  ;)

I'd take 30mph over a pop gun that would hardly be a threat to a fighter.

Did the TBD have a bombsight too?

Yeah, the Norden bombsight.  The bombardier (middle seat) would have to lay prone on the bomb run and then sight through a window on the bottom of the fuselage using the Norden bombsight.

Would we get the one with a single .30, or with the 2x.30's in the tail? :headscratch:

Single .30 caliber in the rear; a few days before the battle of midway, LCDR John Waldron of VT-8 ordered all the TBD's in the squadron equipped with twin 30's, this would be a field modification. VT-8 as well as VT-6 had the .50 caliber option in the nose. Most "Late" TBD-1's were given the option of a .30 cal or .50 cal in the nose however.
