History:   Following Squadron Logs of the above date.  These records are actual documentation of the fighting that day.

RAF

56 Squadron North Weald:
Hurricane P3554.  Hit in engine during combat with Bf 110s over Convoy off Dungeness 2:00PM
Crash landed Manston with engine seized.  Flight Lieutenant F J Gracie unhurt.  Aircraft damaged but repairable.

66 Squadron Coltishall:
Spitfire N3042 Hit by return fire from Do 17 engaged off Winterton 8:30 AM
Returned to base.  Pilot C A Cooke unhurt.  Aircraft repairable.

74 Squadron Hornchurch:
Spitfire P9446  Force landed following combat with Bf109s over the channel off Dover. 11:05 AM.
Sergeant E A Mould unhurt. Aircraft damaged but repairable.

Spitfire K9863 damaged in combat with Do17s and Bf109s 11:05AM.
Force landed Manston.  Pilot Officer J C Freeborn unhurt.  Aircraft damaged but repairable.

Spitfire P9398 Hit in radiator during combat with D0 17s and Bf 109s over Dover at 2:00PM
Pilot Officer D G Cobden unhurt.  Crash landed at Lympne. Aircraft damaged but repairable.

111 Squadron Croydon:
Hurricane P3671 attacked by Oblt. Oesau of III/JG51 during combat over the Channel off Folkestone 1:00PM.
Collided with Do17 of 3/KG2 and lost a wing at 6,000 feet.  Officer T P K Higgs baled out but was killed.
Body washed ashore at Noordwijk 15. 8. 1940.  Aircraft lost.

Hurricane P3459 damaged in combat with 109s off Folkestone 1:15PM
Returned to base.  Flying Officer H M Ferris unhurt.
Aircraft damaged but repairable.

Hurricane P3663 Damaged in port wing during action off Folkestone.  Crashed on landing at Hawkinge 2:00PM.
Sergeant R Carnall unhurt.  Aircraft damaged but repairable.

Hurricane P3676 Damaged in attack by Spitfire over Hawkinge 7:00PM  (yes...a Spitfire)
Pilot Officer B M Fisher unhurt.  Aircraft damaged but repairable.

253 Squadron Kirton-In-Lindsey:
Hurricane P3359 Lost control flying in bad visibility on dawn patrol. Crashed near Humber Coast.
Sergeant I C. C. Clenshaw killed.  Aircraft a write-off.

610 Squadron Biggin Hill:
Spitfire L1000 Hit in port mainplane by Bf109 during combat over Dover at 11:15AM.
Crashed on landing at Hawkinge .  Squadron Leader A. T. Smith unhurt.  aircraft DW-D damaged but repairable.

611 Squadron Ternhill:
Spitfire N3051 Starboard flap badly damaged in landing on waterlogged runway.
Office D.H. Watkins unhurt aircraft repairable.

Luftwaffe losses 10 July 1940:

Aufklarungs Gruppe:
Dornier 215 Crashed and burned out near Le Havre cause not stated. Lt. Rack Lt. Blindlow and Sonderfuhrer Stift  (LW Kriegsberichter K.4 killed.
One NCO wounded.  Aircraft a write off.

2(F)/121
Dornier Do17P crash landed at Cherbourg during routine domestic flight, cause not stated.
No casualties Aircraft 30% damaged.

4(F)/121
Dornier Do17P severely damaged in fighter attack and belly landed near Boulogne. Obit. Samborn killed, two NCOs missing and one wounded.

2/JG3
Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1 Crashed into the sea off Dieppe due to engine failure.
Uffz Sachse injured rescued by Seenotdienst.  Aircraft lost.

I/JG27
Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1 Take off accident at Mathieu aerodrome. Pilot unhurt, aircraft 25% damaged

Messerschmitt Bf109E-4 damaged in takeoff accident at Mathieu.  Pilot unhurt, aircraft 30% damaged.

5/JG51
Messerschmitt Bf109E-3 shot down in combat with British fighters over Thames estuary.  Uffz. Stocker killed.  Aircraft lost.

8/ZG26
Messerschmitt Bf110C-2 Shot down by RAF fighters and AA fire over Folkestone.  Oblt. Siegmund captured and one NCO missing.

III/ZG26
Messerschmitt Bf110C.  Severely damaged in combat with enemy fighters over the Channel but returned to base.
One NCO baled out and is missing.  Aircraft 50% damaged.

1/KG1
Heinkel He111 failed to return from operational sortie.  Lt. Wagner, Hptmn. Beloreus and three NCOs killed.  Aircraft lost.

This is just a small sample of what occurred on 10 July 1940.  We play make believe.......they played for keeps.
Wouldn't it be great if we could manage to do this without having a scenario???   Just a thought.
