Invite only text/vox channels
« on: June 16, 2015, 05:04:35 PM »
It had occurred to me a while ago, but a thread regarding teh spiezzzz and missions today reminded me of it.

It would be nice if for whatever reason, someone could start a vox/text channel and have only people they invite on it.  It would be handy for cross-squad comms that people may not want just anybody listening in on.

Wouldn't want to have it overlay the existing system, it would need to be an addition to it to prevent abuse.  Maybe just have it tied to the organizer's name, so you'd get an invite to 'Wiley' channel for example, and only people I'd invited would be there.

Don't really think it would need any fancy functionality, just 'invite person' 'boot person', 'join channelname' 'leave channelname'.

People cannot type in Wiley and then only text you using that channel? Unless you want to play host inviting others like running a teamspeak channel. I suspect you want a host invite model. For now you still have .P and .R along with randomly choosing some channel. Or actually put up a mission for your friends. I thought the spiz all got second accounts on their older brother's 10 year old laptop along with their kid sister's My Little Poni game.

Then they don't need to be on your channel, just see what your dots are doing under dar. Most can guess from there, especially watching you all take off from a field gun. Heck the Pigs will announce what they are about to do just to start a fight.

Yeah.  .p and .r is swell if you're only talking to one person.  Wasn't really thinking the main benefit was spiez.  Moreso just the ability for whatever reason to have a channel that isn't public but doesn't restrict you to squad.

Something you could try.. though it isn't perfect, as you can't boot people off/out..

Set up a mission.. with, say, 100 C47s... set launch time  a few hours into the future... have your friends join the mission, then use the mission vox/text ( tune channel 5 ).

That way, the only people that will receive the comms are those signed into the mission.

Granted, you'll have to keep  an eye on the roster if you're concerned about spies, but it might work a little better than what we have now.

This might be good for 'grouping' splinter groups from different squads to fight towards a common goal.

Personnel chat,, .p/.r. And give them the vox channel number,,100 through 299,, problem solved.
Yes it would be nice to have private channels but realistically a radio only has so many,,
So if squad channel, won't work for you, private texting of channel numbers is as close as your probably going to get.

2 things- In a game where people are willing to drive for 2 days to shell a target from outside flash distance, are you seriously going to claim 'problem solved' when all the person has to do is walk through 100 channels?  Not going to count 200+ as they're cross country.  Second, if you've got 50 people on channel, that's going to take a little while.

Yep.  Certainly could be done.  Ingame's a lot easier when someone who's new to a group wants to hook up with them rather than getting them to possibly install and configure a client.

Putting "squad" in radio 5 also creates a safe channel. The "spying" however isnt that extensive. Changing to another VOX will solve the problem.
Btw: I have never seen a mission etc been blown by a spy even if its typed on country so this problem is 99% paranoia.

I agree it would be a nice feature!  It is just not currently a problem that you can't work around!
I've had my squad vox invaded before,, I just had to change vox,, it's nice that there are 200 channels to choose from!

Squad channels still work. Is this for players outside your squad?

Yeah.  Forget about the spiezz because they're essentially irrelevant to me.  Basically all I'm saying is it would be nice for the ability to set up a channel that's invite only rather than being able to be tuned by anybody.  Squads fill up, people work with people outside their squads.

the actual squad vox -- the red channel (channel 4). is private to the squad itself and can't be invaded... the channels 100+ are public channels that somehow along the way people started using thinking they're private squad channels.

How about the ability to invite an outsider to your squad channel.  When they leave to go do other things, they need to be invited back.  Then, any squad member has the ability to remove persons from the squad channel.

Probably a programming nightmare but worth an ask...

I'm aware!  But we fly with more than just squad members a lot of the time so that's not an option!
